If you get extra wood above garage door, that leaves room to hang ladders horizontally on the wall. Free up some yard tool space. Cord reel from ceiling and maybe 1 extra? Short cord from your bench?

Depends on how they're mounted and how high the ceiling is. I'm also short and try to avoid ladders due to the bulkiness but I love step stools :) I've got a small, 2-step folding one I keep in the garage which allows me to reach almost everything I need to and storing it is SO much easier than a ladder. I also like the telescoping style ladders for ease of storage.

Also, you can set up overhead ladder storage with a pulley system so you don't have to get up high to get 'em down.

Anybody have a suggestion for a drill press. I got a porter cable cheapy and it has hideous runout. Someone in here suggested Jet, but there’s quite a few reviews of bad runout with jet too. I use them to drill stone with a water swivel adapter and diamond core bits so the run out gets exaggerated with that length.

Grizzly? Shop fox (I know it’s the same company as grizzly)? Jet? Delta(their only press is huge and $1800)? Rikon?

I was looking heavily at a Wen 4214T for a bit, until I was forced to relocate for work. Probably won't pull the trigger til I get a new shop.

@Kwikvette recently went with one and had good results...

I don't follow jet but I wouldn't be surprised if the run out was more an issue with the chuck than the actual units. There's a reason chucks like Jacobs are so expensive

But I'll be getting a Wen 4214 tomorrow (assuming no shipping issues) so I'll report back on it lol. Mostly thanks to rewards points for Amazon

I can say...fuck new craftsmen presses. Least the cheap ones. I got one on sale before and it sucked ass

If you have such a budget, why even consider a cheap variant like Grizzly at all?

I don’t have “such a budget”. I also have zero experience on grizzly and don’t know anyone that has one. So I have zero data points on those quality.

I am willing to spend enough to get a good drill press. But spending a say $700 for a jet 12” drill press with a lot of negative reviews seems disappointing. But I don’t want to spend $2200 on a powermatic.

Just asking for anybody’s input on a quality drill press. Anybody that has a good quality drill press they like can chime in.

The lower end Jet's are your typical Chinese presses.

Not sure who Grizzly is using to make theirs but their bandsaws are the same as Harbor Freight's offerings.

I was back and forth between an old (USA made) Delta or Jet, and though they can be found in the Facebook Marketplace often, I didn't buy one because 1. transport and 2. weight of those presses. I've got a horrible back so I opted for a bench top and took a chance with a Chinese WEN.

I use it often and no complaints!

Just type in my username and type in 'WEN' in the search bar above, click THIS THREAD, and you'll find a ton of pics and stuff I've said so far about it.

Ask yourself this question before making the purchase of the Drill Press. How Often and How Much am I really going to use it? If you aren't sure, Do like I did, Look for one in your area on Facebook Marketplace and buy one that isn't very expensive to start. If you find you are using it a lot get a better one.

Fuck I use mine for hours at a time. I drill stone to make earrings (plugs/guages) and am trying to build up stock of these earrings. So I need something that can handle relatively heavy use and has limited runout. Attaching a water swivel adapter then a diamond core bit means any runout is exaggerated. I bought a cheap one and the runout is bad and causes a ton of chipping. I’ve been watching CL and FB too but no luck.

And I am looking for people’s opinion that have a drill press they actually use and like.

Let me talk with a Jewler friend of mine and see if he is using a Drill Press and if he is what Brand he is using, He is an Jewlery Artist so maybe he can recommend one.

Grizzly tools are mostly older or built on license tools from other manufacturers. I buy them for work, because they have levels of size and power that we need. I have 2 grizzly drill presses, 2 wen bench top, 2 older delta, 3 powermatic, and one jet.

For what we do the variety works great. My favorite is the grizzly radial drill press becuase of the flexibility. If I need very precise depth or speed, we have after marker depth gauges and rpm readouts added to a couple, or our acer mill.

I would look at the parts availability for the tool you are looking at. If you want tiny runout, you will want one designed to be serviced and some of the “better” brands are hard to find parts for.

I work for a Research University in their architecture program, so we walk the line between precise and student WILL break this.

Ok, He said he has never used one in his work and wouldn't know which one to recommend. Is there a Jewler Forum where you could ask this question?

As a machinist, I've corrected drill chuck run out with an indicator and dead blow.
It sounds like you need a decent quality chuck and okay quality press.
    I wish I could recommend a press, but I can't, yet.
You might find a deal on a used Albrecht chuck somewhere. You just need to know the taper size.

While looking around for some bicycle tools, I came across this site that also sells a few Knipex products. Prices seem cheaper than a quick Googl/Amzon check.

Only a few to choose from, not the whole line. You can enter "Knipex" in their search & you'll see what's offered.

Edit: I found 7 Knipex items listed.

For me it’s a toss up between this and my ceiling mounted air hose reel.
