I waited 18 months on the third gen. It wasn’t nearly enough.

 

A Ford tech could probably weigh in. But at this point it seems as if more engine problems are reported by 5.0 owners than 2.7 or 3.5 turbo owners. The resale is best on the 3.5 trucks as they have a good reputation for power and reliability.

 

i was on the fence before i got a tacoma, but because of handling, ride comfort, ( doors, roof, noise, ect) long term reliability, and the gladiator was 5k more for the same options

 

"I LIKE IT LIKE THAT" - never gets dirty

 

You work any mechanical smaller thing harder than the larger one it is replacing equals more wear on smaller parts. You reach mechanical limits of metallurgy and the lubrication properties of the lubricant hence faster wear and ultimately failure.

 

The current 4 banger isn't boosted to replace the performance of the existing 6, it is a low power comparable compression motor. Yes its working harder, would i be surprised to here the current 4 doesn't last as long as the current 6, I wouldn't be surprised but I think the difference would be minimal on an unboosted 4.

 

honestly, drive the Gladiator on the highway before buying one. It’s not fun. I’d go with a Bronco before a Gladiator. If you want a midsize truck and the Tacoma doesn’t fit the bill look at the 23 Chevrolet ZR2. The redesign is very nice. The 24 Ranger Raptor is also very nice.

 

I could add stress to a potato chip or I can add stress to steel of the same size. Component size is kind of a silly argument without real world testing or material data.

 

Not to boil down mechanical engineering design into simplistic terms, but there are many, many ways to increase the performance of a motor to "work harder" to produce more power without compromising in the areas of reliability & efficiency. New alloys, optimized duty cycles, new cooling schemes, R&D metrics from other vehicles, etc, just to name a few things that can boost motor performance across the board.

I'd argue Toyota as a vehicle manufacturer is easily capable of doing exactly that, as the last couple decades of evolving Land Cruisers, Hiluxes, FJ's, 4Runners & Tacomas have proven. And I say that as somebody who dislikes Mike Sweers haha

 

Well, the only vehicle Sweers really had anything to do with on that list was the Tacoma and 4 runner.

 

i have a tacoma so there is no more shopping.....
bronco is a SUV.......
gm stinks and bad on resale .........
baby raptor better be cheaper than a toyota and looks not that wide with a too tall bed.....

 

As a (relatively) satisfied 3.5L owner I'll dare to say there's supporting evidence that the 2TR-FE inline 4 cylinder is MORE reliable than the 6 cylinder is spite of it getting 'worked' harder. Toyota has been complacent and resting on their laurels w/the Taco powerplant.. which was a relatively safe call for the midsize truck field in 2014/2015. Competition has heated up and THIS Toyota fan is considering an ecoboost just to keep up with traffic. If the 4th gen doesn't offer a forced induction powerplant then I'm not buying.

Perhaps the ol'gray mare ain't what she used to be? kidding of course as we're all just exchanging ideas here.

"I worked at a Ford dealership from 2014 till late 2019 ,and from my experience I would not own a 3.5 eco boost, our work bays stayed full with 3.5 eco boost problems censors, cam fazers , timein chain ,turbo problems and oil consumption problems, I’m a Ford guy but the 3.5 is a real problematic engine, we very seldom had any troubles out of the coyote and the 2.7 eco boost they are rock solid engine"

its almost enough , i mean for the tundra, toyota ironed out the wastegate issue as fast as they could havent heard a peep from the new tundra folks for awhile..

 

Why would they show off that electric truck 1.5 years ago if the next gen won't look anything like it seems a bit strange to me. I think the truck will look between that and the renders for the 4thgen forum Tacoma

 

When is Ranger Raptor due out? I thought it was supposed to arrive in the US 4Q22.

 

People still having other issues. They pop up daily on Tundras.com

 

Old adage: pioneers get the arrows. Settlers get the land.

 

You obviously have not tuned in too much to the Tundra folks on multiple channels, they now have incessant wind noise they can't stop, increasing transmission failures, hybrid system malfunctions, seats cracking requiring replacement etc.
