Oh there will be some mods all right
Well, I have come to a conclusion. Although I wanted to do a new build, I don't actually need to do a new build. Going to stretch my current setup a bit longer. I originally was going to go all out with a 13900k and was considering a 7900xtx or a 4090. After seeing how hard the 13900k is to cool and realizing just how damn pricy the 4090 is as well as the issues with the xtx I've decided I'll wait to see what Intel and Nvidia's next gen offerings will be. I mean, my 1080ti has been a trooper this long, why not run it a while longer lol

I had mine since brand new, she was a trooper.

I wouldn't hesitate to say that the 1080ti is the best card of all time. It was at the time pretty expensive but the fact that it's still relevant even now is incredible considering the pace at which technology advances. If you can stomach the price, it seems like the 4090 might be the new longevity king with the outstanding fps it gets and a 13900k being a slight bottleneck at certain resolutions in certain games.

No it was great...going on over 6 years still playing games at 1440p on ultra (depending on game naturally).

If supply wasn't an issue, I too would've jumped on the 4 series RTX but of course no dice. Then when the XTX released I figured "that's not too bad of a price" so I'm ok ordering one new. Woke up early that morning only to keep checking Newegg, Best Buy, and AMD and nope...I missed out.

I'm happy where I'm at now anyway, and will be for awhile unless I get a monitor upgrade :anonymous:

you dodged a bullet since reference cards (7900 xtx) are overheating, you can pick up a reference 4080 for under 1100 with the BB credit card. I literally purchased my 4080 a few days before the restock and overpaid for an AIB asus TUF 4080.

4080 would be an upgrade for sure, but not for me running only 1440P.

Good to hear about the XTX issues and not having bought one.

It's a fantastic card for 1440p high refresh or mid to high settings at 4k. 4090 still is a better value for 4k gaming. I only bit the bullet since I could not stand the Zotac 3090 trinity I had purchased a month prior, luckily I sold it for what I bought it for. (fans were extremely loud and oem fan curves sucked).

Ahh man sorry to hear, then again I never had a Zotac so wouldn't know.

Running an EVGA 3080 Ultra at the moment, and it's quiet as hell. No difference from my Gigabyte 3070.

Just figured I'd try to snag a new card if the opportunity presented itself mainly cause I know my neighbor might want to upgrade my monitor

I recently upgraded to a 13900KF (same as the K). And I've had no heating issues. I spent a couple bucks more on a nice case, and have just a decent AiO CPU cooler....and haven't had a single issue. This mother is FAST!!! I'm still using my 3090...but preplanned to add a 4090 (once the crazy pricing goes away).. and again.. my system is perfectly fine. I might have spent an extra 200 bucks ish on a nicer case, and better quality fans. But that was totally worth it, for this level of performance!

It was my first Zotac card ever and was disappointing. All my previous cards I've owned have been asus strix cards and they have been rock solid / quiet.

4080 is the best worst deal ever. GN did a really good piece on it. It's basically a die the size of a 3070, binned out, and somehow nVidia wants more than double for it. I feel it will go down in history with the 2080 as some of the worst value cards at launch ever.

The reference XTX issues are bad. I know two people with the card, one is perfect. It's quiet, cool, and the issue are mostly with idle power consumption. Other buddies card squeals with any sort of load, it's always at 110 c junction temperature, and he's had tons of random crashes. It really shows their QC needs to tighten up.

    Oof

Been reading about issues where some cards simply have issues crashing and whatnot, and others are without issue.

Quality control seems to be lacking. Think one of those reviews was even posted on Best Buy as I l wanted to buy one.

Der8auer has a really good video explaining what's happening. He did a ton of testing on failing cards to figure it out. Basically, the reference edition cards may have a faulty Heatpipe in them. The review samples appear to be uneffected, which makes him think it's a problem with a specific supplier. What's interesting is the coolers work fine, even on bad cards, when the card is placed in a vertical orientation. It's only in the normal horizontal orientation there's a problem and only on production cards, which again suggests a supplier fucked up. AMD will have to address it, and I could see them having to recall or offer to replace any cards that show the issue.

Man, watching comparison videos of the new 4070TI just tells me it's another way to get people's money cause it's really a great 1440P card...but so are the higher end 30 series cards.

No point in buying one really.

They've been available for purchase on Best Buy's website both yesterday and today. Just need to log into your account and type in the verification code for checkout.

    Living room PC complete!

It’s hooked up via lan but it’s a perfect lan party PC so I keep the antenna on it

Most of it was of used parts of Reddit and Black Friday deals. This PC is pretty quiet and is exactly what I wanted to build for gaming in the living room. A Logitech keyboard / touchpad combo and Xbox controller are what I use to interface with it. I know it’s overkill on storage but I’m happy to not touch it for a few years :)

Agreed!! I have my new system working for a couple weeks now. Latest and greatest of EVERYTHING....except I still have my Strix 3090. And I haven't noticed the slightest performance issue.. This thing is a monster!!

I'll wait for a while to upgrade my GPU. Once the tech evens out...and the price drops considerably..
