I have a 10ft piece of 4x3 0.120 wall. The frame that came out is actually less than 0.120, so this should be fine. The frame is exactly 3" wide and a hair shorter than 4", so it's just about a perfect fit there

I honestly would just make the full repairs. Easier on quality of life as you live now. Who knows what the market will be like in 5 years and it's always a good selling point. Whenever I shopped for homes I would immediately start deducting value if the utilities had to be replaced. It's the cost of home ownership. Also, I guess that's why I bought a new construction instead of someone elses headache.

I'm looking now at building my own place on the water, so let's see what happens! Quality of life....you don't get to enjoy it if you're dead!

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I agree and that was part of the discussion last night. Buyers will be comfortable with a newer system if 5 -7 years old than original equipment in a 20+ year old home. And I'd rather pay a bit more for a quality product than save a few bucks on the builder special at the big box stores. We're leaning toward replacement, it's just getting the cash and avoiding a loan that's the issue.

Sometimes new construction can be the start of your own headaches. We thought we had bought a new construction home from a quality builder. It wasn't from one of the big guys and he totally talked a good game. To his credit, he does go the extra mile on some things, but there are others that have made us angry. We've only been in this house since 2014 and we've had to make many repairs that were the result of the builder not standing behind his product or short-cutting.

Nice work! Now, since you have removed the crumple zones from the rear of the frame, is it going to pass inspection? Some frames have sectioning points, but if you venture outside those parameters or use an unofficial replacement piece, the frame is not longer DOT approved. The rules seem to grow every time I attempt to get an inspection and I have been told any suspension or frame modifications will get a vehicle rejected.

I store mine in the bath tub. I don't see the issue.

I wonder if it's because for the model being recalled, the remote is a wired design that can be detached and used wirelessly, so theoretically if left in the wired configuration, it would be attached to the winch. I don't own one, so not sure that's how it works.

Or drill a bunch of holes into it so it looks like the original and drive thru a few mud holes.

That's how it works and that is a possibility I guess. I still wouldn't call that Warn's fault though because the intended design is that you would just plug in the remote for the act of winching and then unplug and store somewhere safe.

I was told by the inspection station that I went to that it it were cut out and welded, then it would be passable. It was pretty much junk anyway, so it can really only get better at this point. Also this will be the last VA inspection because I'm moving out of state for my full time job after school in July, so only needs to get through one time.

good deal. There was rumor around our parts about Virginia doing away with inspections, or maybe it was a dream I had.

I believe Northam wanted to. Not sure on this new dude's stance. Or if he even cares.

Actually fit with the cover first try. Needs some polishing but the construction is all there. Going to add fish plates where it meets the original frame, cap the ends, and some other little things as well.

Don't mind the 2x4. That was a spacer I made, it's not actually holding up anything

Yeah I'm going to paint it on the outside and do the Eastwood internal frame coating inside. In my experience, a coat of clear also goes a long way to preventing water from getting past the paint and rusting, etc so I'll be doing that as well
