TSB question

Hi all,

I have been contemplating getting the rear spring TSB done to my tacoma. I have a 2011 4cyl access cab 4x4. My issue is that I am wondering if I WILL need this in the future. I will be conducting some research in the backwoods of northern California soon. I will have a lot of gear loaded in the back of my truck including numerous rodent traps with plywood protective boxes and many other random pieces of gear. I don't know what the weight of all of this will be, but I will be on some pretty rough, poorly maintained trails for the next 6-7 months. Do you guys think it would be a good idea for me to get the TSB? Will it provide a better offroad experience?

I brought the Toyota Service Dept 2 dozen of Dunkin Donuts and they still turned me down for my leaf springs!

To the OP if your dealership will do it, the question is why not? Its free covered by toyota you should see a gain of around 1 1/2" but will settle and if you have 100-200lbs then it will probably set around stock rake... never hurts to see if they will do it...

Then just throw some 5100's up front and your good to go

I drove mine for about 4 or 5 months before I had it done. I was thinking about getting air bags because I haul a lot of dive gear in my truck several times a year as well as camping and firewood. I decided to get the springs done after bottoming out on some dirt and gravel roads. I figured it was no cost to me and I'd try it before shelling out the cash for the air bags. So far I've been very happy with it. I really prefer the ride of the TSB Springs over the factory springs but you may want to take some time to see what you need. No hurry, you have 36,000 miles to make up your mind.

Yes.

I would say that if you are hauling almost anything, get the TSB.

It will stiffen you up in the rear a bit, but at least it will perform like a truck.

do you think toyota would do the TSB without me actually bottoming the truck out first? Would they do it as a preventative measure or should I load up the truck and take it over some bumps to show that I have hit the bump stops?

 

Depends on the dealer. I just walked in w/ the printed TSB in-hand & they ordered parts no questions asked. Others have had a tougher time of it.

 

I've heard guys say that their techs actually looked for signs of bottoming out on the stops. Mine did bottom out, no clue if my tech actually looked. it wouldn't take much to do it. have a few buddies sit on the tailgate and drive through an appt complex that has speed bumps that'll definitely do it.
