Your right. Florida won't be like California. It'll just end up at the bottom of the ocean.

That was a Californian attempt to say sea waters are rising. Meanwhile all those doomsayers from La Jolla to Monterey continue to live in their multi million dollar mansions on the cliffs but tell everyone else they'll drown.

Agreed. There are silly laws everywhere. California gets a lot of hate because we are a huge state—we have cities with more population than some states—so it's more visible than a lot of the other smaller states. And it's economy is so huge that when a change happens here if often trickles to other states. Not everyone loves it, but a lot of the reasons to "hate" it are pretty overblown and it's a pretty awesome state for a lot of reasons, including wheeling.

It didn't really make the news headlines, but back in November the FBI took down a number of ringleaders that were doing the actual metal extraction / money laundering. But just like gas theft, this one waxes and wanes. It will be quiet for a time before someone else learns enough electrochemistry to get in on the game.

Florida used to have smog/emissions checks but it was a total racket - between the 'inspection' and the 'needed repairs' AND made zero difference..
So FL got rid of that BS a long time ago, now just pay the county like 40$ and get your sticker for your plate.

I moved out of Florida a long time ago and county I live in only mandates 'safety checks' - eg do your brake lights work and such..
Of course I haven't had my car inspected in about 8 years and my truck only got inspected when I went to apply for a plate on it, like 3yr ago - no tickets, no one bothers me and at this point the ticket is cheaper than my 'compliance' would have been

These two things do not align.
California legislators love people like you; not everyone shares your priorities.

Do you NOT support cleaner and more healthful air for everyone breathing it? The numbers do not lie in terms of fewer (especially elderly) people with chronic lung and breathing conditions and your eyes don't lie when they look at how much clearer it is now than it was thirty years ago. It's a small step but it's a step in the right direction especially when we're looking at a far greater overall climate crisis. It seems like you're saying that you might not share those priorities. It won't be long 'till the greater Phoenix area will be uninhabitable in the summer time due to excessive heat and already there are many days when it's not safe for people to go outside or for planes to take off or land. FFS, a guy that I photographed back in the 90's for an ad broke down in the rural areas outside Phoenix in July and died from the heat before he could get help. I could not be happier that we have a progressive governor and state legislature here.

California: "omg we looove diversity of skin color, it doesn't matter if somebody isn't good at a job we neeeeeed diversity!!"
Also California: "how dare you not conform to our standard view of automotives! We're going to take 2 weeks pay from you or force you to buy a new car!"
You: "omg govern me harder daddy!! I love the long-term effects of over-regulation because I can physically SEE them, forget what it does to the essence of individual freedom, f**k that!"

I hope it continues to get hotter in PHX. I'm adapted, commies ain't.

Anyway, getting too close to breaking the rules here, so I'm out.

Stay in AZ. People bitch about California and don’t even live here. This is about to turn into another “free state” thread.

Yup. CA ain't perfect, but nowhere is. The hate kinda used to bug me but now I'm fine with it, heck, I almost encourage it. If you don't like it, you can stay out or move out. We've got too many people here already anyway so I welcome the opportunity for traffic to get better, not worse, and for our outdoor spaces to see less overcrowding.

What in the hell! A 2k$ ticket for smelly exhaust or emissions failure? Either way that is absolutely insane.
