I’m shocked we don’t have a thread for veteran owned businesses on here. Have a new oil, gas, bumper, wheel, and grill thread every week. Is this something anyone can start or does it need to be a moderator? I wouldn’t mind helping out to manage a list of veteran owned businesses.

I usually avoid them now after having worked for one previously. Everything sold was made in china and practically branded as made in USA and used his veteran status just to get sales for his Chinese garbage. Guy was also a dick.

People are people. Regardless of race, creed or military status, jerks come in all flavors.

Sometimes an honorable discharge is similar to a participation trophy. And sometimes it is conferred on a true hero. But the average Joe on the street doesn't have enough info to know which is which in most cases.

    4 run, 2 don't
    This.

Someone that offers goods and services may be a veteran with no mention of it.

Few one-time customers of mine didn't know I'm a disabled vet.

23 year vet and 10 year defense contractor and I have to admit most are more than dicks.

The ones to run from are the ones who flaunt their service, have to tell you everything they’ve done ( most of which turns out to be bs anyway) and seem to think that their prior military status holds sway anymore.

And if they are just selling cheap Chinese shit another reason to run far away. I’m a civilian now and that’s good enough for me.

I don’t care for braggarts, bullshitters, money grabbers….ah who the hell am I fooling. I don’t like most people I don’t know as I don’t trust them.

There is a lot of thought provoking discussion out there regarding monetizing one's veteran status.

I am more likely to buy from one who humbley discloses their status in an "about us" page or similar, rather than one who broadcast it at every opportunity---an approach I learned from some veteran friends.

Maybe the prior is the reason OP can't find his mod source so easily... Best of luck in the search.

Yep. Way too many that use their former military status to hide what sleazeballs they really are.

Totally agree. Anyone who hasn't been in the military probably doesn't realize the caliber of people there are that wear the uniform. It doesn't take much to join the military. There are a lot of awful people that couldn't find a job anywhere else and found the military.

That's a harsh assessment considering I went to the USAF recruiter in late 1985 and found out I had to take an ASVAB test for placement.

I had a job during HS and went full time in the summer of 1985 and had to wait until April 1986 to go to Boot Camp--I was so looking forward to leaving SoCal/LA.

There are all kinds of personalities that join the military to conform in a Squadron setting. Does everyone make it past their first assignment...a small percentage don't.

Of those who decide to re-enlist, some may decide they want to travel the world and possibly meet the love of their life (like I did).

I was very fortunate to have great Supervisors/Leadership to take me under their wing and teach me the ways of the Force (I'm being a little silly but it is the US Air Force).

My point is, not everyone in the military is a sleaze ball...heck, the civilian world has enough of their own to contend with. (I say that sincerely without malice)

Apologies to the civilian in uniform. I didn't say that everyone was a sleazeball. What I said is that just because someone volunteered to serve, does not automatically make them a special human being and those that display their military status on their business usually do so thinking they are special. I'm sure you knew that the air force required the highest score to join. Followed by Navy, Marines, and I'm not sure you had to do much more than put your name on the test to get into the Army in those days. Even in the Navy I questioned how some of those guys passed the test. That being said, the business I run into here in the North Florida area that display their military status for the most part are pretty forgettable. Probably doesn't help that I knew some of them before getting out.
