That’s a good point! I’m definitely loving the truck. Still everything I need and nothing I don’t.

Maybe I should have driven an extra mile before I parked

I’ve never been a Jeep owner but I always appreciate a well built and cared for “classic” like this one I spotted today:

I had a Jeep similar to the one in photo above years ago but too many issues. I got rid of it and got 2007 Tacoma then this 2017 Tacoma.

That’s exactly why I never bought a Jeep, I hear too many stories of mechanical issues from friends who have owned them.

I also feel like they wouldn’t be practical for long road trips with 2 people + a lot of gear and 2 dogs, it just seems like they don’t have a ton of storage. I guess the gladiator probably addresses that problem.

One of the issues on Jeep that I was not able to open the driver side door... which I had to get in or out via passenger side door. So annoying.

I haven’t done anything to the truck in a while, it’s basically set up how I want it now. It certainly has everything I need. I may be doing some tire swapping soon, we’ll see. That will be purely a want, not a need based, decision.

Another trip is in the books, the ARE bed cap is by far the best thing I’ve purchased for the truck. So much room for activities.

There are some big (I think?) changes to the truck coming in the next few weeks:

    -285/75/16 Yoko g003 MT’s ordered and I’m patiently awaiting arrival/install. I’m super pumped. They are a true 33”.

-Sliders are coming off and going up for sale shortly

-My Grabber ATXs tires will probably be going up for sale unless I really hate the Yoko’s, but I don’t see that happening lol

Pics to come in the next week-ish depending on when I can get everything done!

Why are you ditching the sliders?

When I bought them, I convinced myself that I needed them. In the year or so that I’ve had them, I’ve never even come close to using or needing them. I don’t do any true wheeling, just light/medium trails. They’re really just dead weight on my truck.

So in the spirit of keeping this a truly utilitarian/clean rig, I’m gonna sell them. It’ll make my truck lighter and I’m going to use the money for the new tires. Plus, my wife hates them so that’s a win lol

You in the market for sliders? Edit-nevermind, I re-read your build thread and saw you already have some!

Fair enough. I admire the honesty and commitment to your true vision regardless of what the end product looks like. Hanging around here make that a fine line that is VERY hard to balance. There are many on this site who are probably in a similar situation (as in having sliders but not really needing them) who would never admit it. Hell, I'm probably not that far from that category but they have taken some minor trail damage so that's my justification even if I only find myself off road a handful of times per year :D

Thank you! Yeah I would say even if you only need the sliders once a year, that’s enough justification because the cost to repair a bad hit from a rock would be more than the sliders themselves. I just don’t do anything that would put me in a spot like that, at least not for now.

You’re not kidding, it is really hard to stick (mostly) to stuff that I truly use when I hang around here so much

I have definitely done a few cosmetic things but I just try to keep it clean and not over-the-top.

They got here so fast, I wouldn’t be surprised if he made a mistake!

They are going on the truck early next week and I’ll post pics as soon as I get a chance

The sliders came off today and are officially up for sale in the 3rd Gen Marketplace.

    Moving forward with the build!

Sorry to hear that you had to take the sliders off. I would keep them on if it was me. You never know if you ran into ditch and bottom of the doors get damaged. But I understand it is your decision. Good luck with the sale.

    Thanks man!

Yeah there’s about a .01% chance of that happening with the amount of ground clearance I have and the type of trails I ride lol but if I do get a ding I’m not too worried about it because I don’t plan on ever selling the truck.

The Yoko g003’s are on the truck and I am beyond excited. I will post some initial thoughts once I’ve driven a few hundred miles on them but so far they seem amazing. I am running 285/75/16 which is a true 33”.
