man those brownells videos are so hit or miss. Some are genuinely helpful but holy crap 7 minutes for them to say a 13.7” is longer than a 10.5” but shorter than a 16”… o_O

To be honest I posted it before I watched it all the way to the end, and then I thought the same thing. I really thought it would be more informative :annoyed:

    Yeah.
That wording is so confusing, but it seems like they did that on purpose. I built a pistol with a stabilizing brace, I didn't add a stabilizing brace to a pistol to make it a rifle. It sounds like you can register them tax-free for 120 days, so I guess my feeling is "whatever." At that point I guess I can just replace the brace with a stock and use whatever other accessories I want.

It's dumb and will most definitely be challenged in court (see bumpstock challenge) but that will most likely go well beyond the amnesty period.

From a layman's perspective so don't take this as legal advice I see a couple options

1: for those in free states that allow NFA items and/ or have nfa items already cans sbrs etc and want another nfa item (SBR) do the form 1 for $0 stamp during amnesty period. Once have stamp engrave lower and add a stock then deal with the extra SBR hassle need permission to cross state lines etc

2: remove brace from pistol and wait out the inevitable court cases for final outcome.
Word of warning if ATF gets a hair up their ass and comes searching in probably wouldn't want a brace lying around even if not attached.

3 if went with option 1 and rule is overturned in court build a new pistol lower and go back to the way things were but now you also have a sbr lower too.

4 live dangerously and you do you

Me personally I'm going option 1 I've already got multiple nfa items so they aren't exactly getting anything new of me except the details on my bcm lower. I was planning on SBRing this one anyway because I hate the brace

But for those that buy private party or 80% lowers and do their best to not have nfa stuff and their name in a default registry I get it and it sucks

They did away with the worksheet and because they're so nice they took it upon themselves to determine. Basically the way I read it is pretty much any brace attached to a sub 16 inch barrel is now a sbr/sbs

Oh I’m betting they’re already to go. After the ruling on bumostocks the other day I’m suprised they went ahead with it

I've got a box of 80% lowers I as well go ahead and SBR.

    If they're buyin, I'm flyin'!

Edit: I wonder if I can get refunds for SBR stamps I got after pistol braces were approved....

The new brace drop is a word salad. Leaves it wide open to interpretation, which makes it easier for you to become a felon. Which is what they want, so they can either register or confiscate. To me, it just creates more questions than answers.

They were fairly clear on our 4 options going forward I thought. Register, destroy, turn in, or remove brace and make it to where it can’t be reinstalled

Lol kinda my thoughts too. Going to be A LOT of new form 1s being filed. Even for ones that didn't have braces before
