@Speedytech7 I think they're even cheaper than the Ursa if memory serves now.

Seems like a great excuse to buy a 70 series.

    4 run, 2 don't
New high pressure hoses, gaskets, O ring, and the remainder of those nice hoses for the reservoir/return and my power steering is quiet as fuck.

Changed the oil too so it's minty now.

Now I have an extra power steering pump as a backup and a kit to rebuild it with.

If I lived out west I'd probably consider one, since there are multiple shops out there that are doing work on em and know them in and out and can source parts, but over here not so much. Still, you know an import is gonna be a headache at some point. I like the idea of the Wrangler top being reversible if you ever need to, but the CampTeq is great and also, Land Cruiser.

That particular LC has a Cummins-in-a-box swap (the little 4 cylinder) because something happened to the original engine. Not sure if that makes maintenance harder or easier... and that's like a $13k crate motor, so not realistic for most people regardless. I'm guessing the owner got it at a discount thanks to his influencer status.

That's John Watson's truck right? His engine crapped out after he filled up with really bad diesel if I remember correctly. I think he paid full for it but not 100% sure. It's a damn expensive job with labor costs. I used to think, oh the engine doesn't cost so much, but seeing peoples bills after install, you gotta really want it.

Yep, John Watson. Now that you mention it, I do remember him mentioning bad diesel.

I don't have any insider information about his situation specifically, so I could be totally wrong about that discount... I'm just speculating based on what I know about how influencer marketing works. I can easily imagine someone with a lot of followers posting about their blown engine on Instagram and then getting a DM from Cummins going "hey, we'd love to help...".

That Cummins R2.8 is a stupid little motor... Let's charge 10-15k for a 4 cyl diesel that's weaker than any of the other diesels that are 1/3 the cost. I even got to say that to the Cummins guys at the booth when it first came out.

Yeah, that's the other part of my speculation... I'm not sure why someone picks that over rebuilding a Toyota diesel, or swapping any of the other diesels available? The convenience is nice, for sure, but people don't drive 70-series in the US because they like doing things the easy way...

Oh I don't doubt it happens. I know he had Overland Cruisers do the work. He did a great buildout of it, I do love those things. Just outta my ballpark and I feel like I'd get over any headaches that you'd get sourcing parts. I could be wrong.:notsure:

Is it popular because it's easier to fit? I don't know a ton about em. I know Overland Cruisers and some others apparently make conversion kits for them to make them more "drop in," ready. Figured ease may be party of the appeal. Reliability?

I met with Overland Cruisers at Overland Expo and saw the first 80 series they put one of these in, it absolutely is easy to fit cause it's 1/2 the size of a 1FZ. It's output is also pathetic and turning it up is expensive. It requires a tune since it is common rail and it doesn't have a lot of headroom without even more custom parts due to the miniscule turbo. I guarantee they did the swap under pressure from Cummins cause it makes no financial/practical sense otherwise over a 4/6BT or even one of the bigger LS/LT engines

Cummins' main selling point is that it's a complete system. Engine, fuel delivery, accessories, cooling, motor mounts, tools and supporting documentation... all from the same source. In theory it's easier and more reliable than piecing together a bunch of random parts from different vendors/makes/models.

So apparently I just spent 78 and change at an Advance Auto Parts in North Carolina where my card number was entered manually. AMEX sent me a nice text message about it and yeah, they're now sending a new card. Thx AMEX.

And it's still cheaper to buy a rebuilt 6BT and the whole swap kit for it (includes all of what you mentioned)
