I posted about this previously when I checked it was one piece so I didn't order it . Farther up the OEM harness disconnects but would require a custom harness. It can work but you will have to cut the 7 pin off the light pod and splice into the back of the factory one wire by wire which defeats the purpose of plug and play .

The 2nd gen trailer harness has a rectangular connector on the upstream end:

The 7-pin trailer connector doesn't open at the back. There's just a 90-deg backshell. This is different from the 3rd gen Tacoma design.

Thanks for posting this I was going to take a similar picture but didn't at the time I looked at my truck. A harness that would plug into the rectangular part of the harness would be a great option for us 2nd gen owners ...

This hitch light solves a lot of problems in one package - brighter reverse light, flashing 4th brake light, but I'll have to crawl under my 4Runner to look at the connector before ordering. Should fit because they have a 5th gen in the video.

The 5th generation 4Runner here at our HQ has been tested.

2014 SR5 has a 7-pin connector that disconnects and allows our harness to plug right in line. No reports from 5th gen 4Runner owners having compatibility issues at this time.

Our engineering team is currently looking into a custom harness immediately for the 2nd generation Tacoma (05-15) for our HitchMount LED pod to avoid splicing and keep this product plug-and-play!

If you have any concerns with your order, no need to worry!

Please go ahead and give us a call at 314-205-3033 Monday-Friday 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. CST, or shoot us an email at contact@diodedynamics.com, and our service team would be happy to help arrange a return/refund.

Thank you. I'll consider ordering this again if this is resolved. I agree with the others, the whole point was the "plug n play" aspect of it. I don't want to start splicing things to make it work. Thanks for your concern on fixing this and I hope you've updated your website/marketing team to make it clear it is not directly compatible with 2nd Gens right now.

Bought the C1R version P/N DD7422 from a local shop and got it installed. The breakout cable was a tight fit because of the spare tire and tight OEM harness, but everything clicked into place nicely:

This is a top priority for our engineering team to design and supply chain to arrange.

We absolutely want to be able to provide an option to 2nd generation Tacoma owners!

Glad I checked here before getting crazy. 2013 Tacoma owner and I haven’t been able to get the back off the OEM. Seeing this it appears I can’t plug n play anyhow.

Disappointing. I’m certain I specified my vehicle when purchasing.

Plug-and-play harnesses are on the way for 2nd Gens. Thanks
I'm sorry for the trouble! We have the new harnesses on the way and we'd be glad to send you one as soon as they are ready, if you could shoot us an email.

ok. So you’ve confirmed that an alternate harness is necessary for 2nd Gen Tacomas. This post is the first solid acknowledgment of that I’ve seen.

Glad you’re addressing it. Hope you’re able to get the word out.

I’ll email customer service tomorrow. Thanks for the reply

Ok guys. We're reaching a point here. I communicated to your company 2 days ago. Got an auto reply saying 'recieved'. Nothing further.

Examining your website, you're still selling the unit as a quick 5 minute plug n play solution on the 2nd gen, when evidentally you have yet to have a harness that actually works. You've had my money for over two months and days ago shipped a unit which you knew doesn't work, and at the moment, aren't responding. You need to step up and honor the sales commitment.

No beef on the quality of the product at all. DD is simply the best. I'm a repeat customer and hope to conitinue. But this issue with 2nd gen owners and taking payment for a product that doesn't work on their truck needs to addressed, STAT.

Our team is working hard to keep up with all customer communications, and we appreciate your patience and support as a repeat customer! We do answer all emails in the order they come in.

We don't list any vehicle-specific listings for this product, as is it meant to be universal. It will still appear with a search using our vehicle-finder tool, as with many of our other universal products such as our LED strip light kits, but there is no listing stating specific compatibility with the 2nd Gen Tacoma.

We apologize for the inconvenience and confusion this has caused! If you could, send us a DM with your order number and our team will be able to prioritize your email.

Stumbled on this thread a bit coincidentally... I like the hitch pod, but if you guys figure out that 2nd gen adapter harness I may actually be interested in just buying the harness! I want to convert my standard 7 pin to a combo 4/7 pin (like 3rd gens) but after a bunch of research I was unable to find any way to build my own custom harness to create a plug n play setup. I don't want to hack into any of my factory wiring.

Subscribing so I can see what these harnesses look like...

So...there is separation betwen the elbow and 7 pin. The problem is I don't know what's behind THAT. I can't get it apart. did you manage to find something to address the 4 tabs?

I am sure I’ve discussed this with @caribe makaira before. I’ll hit him up. Making a tee there should be easy enough. Could make it a tee that feeds into the metripack type connector easy enough. That could allow this light to be used as well as the trailer plug being swapped like @clenkeit was asking about.

You are correct, it does come apart. But, I don't think that helps any of us unfortunately as I don't believe it made it so you could just plug in a different connector. I'll try to dig up the thread I found that shows it taken apart and then tag you in it. That way maybe we don't bog down DD's thread with this banter.
