Yes, what about the transmission for the 4th gen. Some speculation that it may be an 8 or a 10 speed. Didn't Toyota introduce the current 6 speed for the 3rd gen when it debuted in 2016? From what I understand it was a new design specifically for the 3rd gen. Overall It's been a good, solid transmission. The programming for MPG's and Emissions have given it, I think, an unfair reputation as an transmission with issues in the wider press. The real criticism should be with the ECU programming.

Anyhow, I would speculate that Toyota may go conservative and retain the current 6 speed auto for reliability. Any past performance issues may be addressed with a higher torque T4, gearing and better shifting software while still meeting emissions and MPG targets. I don't know if there would really be any better benefits to having an 8 or 10 speed. Wouldn't the current 6 speed be better off-road rather than a 8 or 10?

And yes, an available manual transmission would be nice too.

    RX500h F Sport Performance uses a 6 speed transmission so it’s a possibility.

None to speak of, just enjoying it for the moment.
That's why Toyota has several turbocharged cars including the new Tundra. Not saying I disagree with you in fact I'm in violent agreement but I'm pretty sure they're going turbo in the new Tacoma but I hope I'm wrong.

From what I understand, TOYOTA has a future in store for the venerable six after all. It appears that with the hybrid, the six works real well and the monster 6-10 spds are no longer needed.

Hopefully that is right as I love the six shooter lol!

Anecdotal experience of "Toyota employee" who thinks the new tundra has an I6.

That checks out, turbos r bad doods.

I bought an 89 and an 05. Not sure I entirely buy into this logic unless the motor and drivetrain are really first model years and from what it sounds like the motors have been testing for a few years. BTW my 05 has 253k.

I bought first year 3rd gen. Only thing that concerns me is where will I find a replacement windshield when the first rock hits it?

I owned a new one for 3 years....thing was peppy and reliable for 78k...when I traded it for an 89. I was meticulous to let it idle though if turbo light was on for extended periods. At 19 years old...it was on a lot!
