Tire storage racks?

I keep 2 sets of tires in my garage stacked up and I'd like to get them off the ground and either in an overhead rack or on a wall mount.

(Winter tires for both the Taco and my wife's Outback, or the all-seasonal when we have the winter tires on.)

Any suggestions of a good tire mount system I can install in my garage?

 

In for opinions….I do the same thing, but I put the extra sets on these tire dollies

i've got this one in my garage for the winter tires i no longer use but can't commit to sell, mostly because it was cheap and used less space than a rack made out of 2x4's. no complaints, though i think you'd need 2 for 8 tires, it's definitely not wide enough for that.

I do like these storage units you mention...I'm probably biased with vertical units since my son-in-law has them for his winter tires.

I'm a logistics guys so vertical storage shines it's own light.

 

with some simple cross-bracing and a few lag screws, that roll-around 8-tire carrier could pretty easily find itself as a wall-mounted unit.

but if you want to get fancy with vertical corner storage...

I’m a fan of the wall mount variety, here is what I installed..

 

Here's one I built. Took a few 2x4s and some chain. Didn't take any direct photos of it but you get the idea. Basically a 2x4 ladder bolted to the studs and then chain from the leading edge to the studs above.

Yep. I built it on the ground, then put the chain mounts into the studs and attached the chain to the front rail. I used a bit o geometry to cut the chains to length for close to 45 degree angle. Once the chains were attached I could figure out level and then bolted the rear rail directly to the studs with some timberloks.

Mine is built for two sets of tires for my BMW so my measurements may not work for you but if you want them I can measure for you.

Here's the hardware kit used for the chain. Meant for hammocks but rated to 1400 lbs.

 

If you’re only going 4 high, the Rubbermaid trash can dollys work great…

I’d bet one could also find an old, busted aluminum extension ladder for next to nothing… cut one fly to length, some lags and chain and you’re in business.
