are they coated with anything?

 

Yep, I bought them used so I can’t verify exactly how it was done but they appear to have either been powder coated or painted (black) with a weatherproof paint like Rustoleum or something similar.

They’re coming off the truck tomorrow so they’re ready to go.

 

Speaking about emission, had to get mine done today. If it’s the first time with a new vehicle you need to go in person… I tried the self serve at the MVA a few weeks ago and got an error. I asked about it today at the in person and they said 1st timers have to be in person..

For anyone curious, your truck can pass emissions if it’s tuned, we’ll with OTT.

 

Your truck is a 2020… why does it already need an emissions check?

 

Good question, but I think it’s 3 years initial then every 2 years after…

 

I tried asking at the DMV.

Agent: you will get an emissions notice in the mail.
Me: any idea when emissions is due?
Agent: you will get an emissions notice in the mail.
Me: the truck is almost new, how long might I have before emissions is due?
Agent: you will get an emissions notice in the mail.
Me:

3 years is not very long.

Nope, not long at all.

 

I give credit where credit is due. Best DMV experience I have ever had to date. Showed up about 15 minutes early for my appt. Was outside with my tags before my appt officially started. I did have all my paperwork in order, but getting the tags was very easy.

 

That's the good stuff! I use it and like it.

 

Wife & I changed over our driver's licenses & 2 vehicles from MD to WV today. 2year truck registration is $103 here. If I remember correctly I was paying around $180 for 2years registration in Md. And I got the required form to register & tag my SxS for street use here in WV.

Thank you very much. It's actually kinda new to have a good-looking truck (beyond the fact tacomas just generally look good!).


So when I would attend most any wheeling or overlanding event it'd go like this:

Tacoma with bumper, winch, lights, rtt, rotopax + tractions boards etc in front of me; in fact usually a couple. As we'd roll in people, esp kids, would watch the other trucks drive in. As I passed them they'd look down at their phones or start talking to others. After me I'd see them look back at the other 'cooler' trucks.

I have a love-hate relationship with looking capable without much way to measure capability. I love the way that bumper looks on my truck and it gives it a much more serious vibe. But It's arguably no more capable than with the bumper - approach angles is probably the biggest difference. But I am not a fan of driving my truck around on errand with RTTs and and Overlanding gear on display because, well...I dunno. I guess I can't exactly explain it. But I went with the topper lift in part because i have more space than a RTT, better protection, nothing high up top i could fall-out-of as I roll my fat butt out to pee in the middle of the night....and...because the truck just looks like a normal truck most of the time.

 

lol! It sounds like we have very similar thoughts about how we’ve built our trucks. My entire build is centered around being a clean, utilitarian build (it’s literally in the title of my build thread).

That’s probably why my truck is setup very similar to yours.
