Still leaves a lot of “what ifs”. It’s all so tiresome anyway.

Luckily, I have all rifles and carbines. Nothing to blur the lines.

Yes you are correct they are sadly vague. As I see it, or understand it, it is a ruling on guns equipped with braces. If the brace is removed it does not apply I will do what is practical to be in compliance.

I only have one. My little pcc. I also have legitimate shoulder disabilities not that it apparently matters. I’ll have to figure it out but easiest is to remove the brace and make it unusable

Don’t do anything just yet. I’m hoping Bruen will bring the smack down when it gets challenged in the courts.

If not Bruen then the appellate court decision on bumpstocks or the WV vs EPA decision should. The sticking point may be that they aren’t outlawing braces just regulating them

Only issue is the extra hoops to jump through travelling out of state. That's the only thing that has kept me from SBRing my AR-9.

With the proper paperwork yes. Can't recall the form number right now but they can be done for a period up to 364 days.

Really hope the inevitable lawsuit against this garbage is won but I guess until then I'll remove the brace and the buffer that accepts the brace from my AR-9. Fortunately I have spare parts lying around so it won't cost me anything. I've heard people arguing that the ATF is claiming the back of a buffer tube is a "bearing surface" but haven't seen anything to support that yet.

I’ve been looking at the same thing from what I can tell we will be ok removing the brace, rendering it non functional, and from what I can tell it’s still ok to put buffer tube to your cheek. I know they said it was just k to put a cane tip on buffer to help it stand in a safe or whatever

I don't think they have any intention on clearing it up It's a disaster and no doubt people will be targeted over this

I just set up my nfa trust and am moving forward soon with the amnesty stamp but as mentioned previously I had already planned on sbr'ing this lower anyway so have been waiting to avoid paying the stamp tax. But I'm in the minority here and I'm still just as pissed about this as everyone cause it impacts future build/purchase wants

This rule change is awful and I really hope it gets struck down in court but outside a TRO which is certainly possible given the estimate of 10-40 million braces in use. With that said there's no way its resolved in 120 days and who knows if the amnesty period gets extended.

There's so many different challenges to this
ATF changing definition of rifle/pistol outside of congress
    Common use
    Chevron
States that don't allow nfa items
Challenges to ATF prior issued opinions on braces

IIRC there is a lawsuit that has been tee’d up contesting they’re in common use since they dropped the pistol brace worksheet last summer. The judge just stayed it until the atf dropped an official rule. Hopefully that’ll get an injunction on this for a few years.

To be safe I’m prolly gonna finally start my gun trust (opposed to my single shot suppressor trusts) incase it’s time for amnesty SBRs. I’d rather keep them pistols tho since I live on a state line and frequently shoot in both.

I considered doing this with a couple of mine. I already have an NFA trust so it wouldn't cost me anything but I've intentionally not SBR'd some of mine because I want to be able to cross state lines w/o paperwork.

Whole thing is BS and really hope the lawsuit sorts it out. I suspect BATFE knows it's not legal and will get struck down like bump stocks but they know by the time it's struck down a lot of people will have complied.

You’ll have to file as individual for the amnesty and then form 4 to your trust. You have to pay the $200 anyway skip the extra step.

This raises an interesting question. If, as far as the Gov is concerned, a ghost gun doesn't exist are you still a felon for putting a brace on one? Should it be referred to as Schrodinger's gun?

Please note that my statement above is intended with all possible sarcasm. I'm definitely salty over all this shit.

Here is my "DMR" style build. Just got it together last night. Going to order the Magpul PSR lite stock. And eventually a better optic. Had this 1-6 laying around after I swapped it off my 11.5 for a red dot. Open to suggestions on stuff I should do. Also getting a 20rnd mag today. 20230115_102042.jpg

What sucks even more is the backlog this is going to create. Good luck getting your suppressors anytime soon
