Hello Guys, I drive a 2015 4wd V6 Tacoma Limited. I love my truck to death. But at the same time, I'm sick and tired of this truck wanting to be in overdrive at 35mph around 1,100rpm. I was wanting to ask the people out their that run the VF Tune on their V6 tacoma if they like it and was it worth it? Thanks.

There is also the HP tuner route. I have made a few custom auto trans tunes in and you can pretty much make the truck do whatever you want via tune.

I've seen that one to. I'm not a tuner. So, I just want something I can flash and be done. But I will look more into that one.

I'm assuming yours is tuned. If so, how do you like it?

I've started doing that. I've noticed my truck vibrates when I'm at 35-40mph in 5th. Sometimes, the converter will lock, and when it does at that speed, since it's at 1100rpm, it vibrates the entire truck. It drives me insane. Just like you said, if I keep it in 4th under 45mph, it's happy

Tuned for "off road" - I like it its nice, the auto trans tune I have stays in lockup longer especially in 4th when getting deeper into the throttle (great for hill climbs and towing) same with 5th, among other enhancements, I couldnt drive a stock tune again.

We can absolutely help you out with a tune for your Tacoma.

We have tuners across the country who would be happy to help you out. We can help you out via VFTuner or HPTuners as mentioned here. We have two specific transmission tunes available depending on your needs and have the ability to custom build a transmission tune to suite any need or situation.

Good to know. My main reason why I had the thought of wanting to tune my truck is just to change my shift points. I did as what monkeybutt2000 said. I can feel my truck vibrate at 35-40mph in overdrive. As soon as I hit the gas to make it downshift, the vibration instantly goes away. And see if you guys can help me with this, sometimes, I'll drive my truck. And doing 35 in overdrive round 1,100rpm, all of a sudden, it will shake violently like I'm in a manual lugging the
Thank you Justin, appreciate you. Also, all the others, I've been reading all of you guyses comments. See if you guys can help me with this. The main reason I'm wanting to possibly think about tuning my truck is just to change the shift points. I have done what monkeybutt2000 said since I've been feeling my truck vibrate around 35-40mph. And a few times, at 35mph at around 1,100rpm in 5th, the truck will shake violently like your in a manual lugging the engine in to high of a gear. And like what moneybutt2000 said, if you lock it in 4th, all is good. I personally think the reason why it's doing this is because the truck should not be at 1,100rpm in 5th at 35mph. Any advice from you guys would much be appreciated. I was thinking if I gave my truck a tune just to change the shift points, all of this would be no more.

If its violently shaking thats not normal. Id suggest looking at transmission fluid levels.

You got some of the best in here helping you.
But I’d make sure it’s not the torque converter that’s causing the shudder.
If it doesn’t shudder in 4th that makes me want to investigate.

You can “trick” the truck into unlocking in 5th. If the shudder stops when you tap the brake pedal, you might have problems a tune won’t fix.

Either way, I’d still get a tune.
Like I said, 2 of the best tuners for the 2nd Gen are already in here helping out.

    Shudder test

Allow the truck to warm to operating temp . Your converter will not lock up when its cold .
Place the shifter into the overdrive position and drive until you feel the converter shudder .
Once you begin feeling the shudder , use the " Brake Tap Test " to see if the shuddering goes away .

As soon as you feel the shudder , use your left foot and gently tap the brake pedal about 1/4 inch down but leave your right foot steady on the gas pedal .
The idea here is not actually hitting the brakes but manipulating the brake switch . Manipulating the brake switch tells the computer that you are coming to a stop . Your computer will then command the converter clutch to the off position for a couple of seconds . When the converter turns off , your shudder is going to go away for a brief moment .
Because , you only tapped the brake pedal to manipulate the brake switch and you still have your right foot steady on the gas pedal , the computer in your truck will then command the torque converter to re-apply the locking clutch and your shudder will instantly return .

Also, here is a GREAT resource for the A750 Transmission

I have been reading everything gear cruncher has posted for this. I just came back from going somewhere. I tried to make my truck act up. But couldn't. I tried to make it act up a few days ago and do the brake tap test as you said, I couldn't get it to act up then either. However, when my truck did have the little vibrations going on like usual at 35-40, I did tap test it, and it just downshifted. And didn't come back. But the nasty vibration, I've only had it happen a hand full of times. And every time I try to make it act up since the last time, I can't get it to. And ive been trying to simulate the exact senerio when it did act up. It was always when i was behind someone doing 40 in overdrive, then, the person in front of me slowed down to 35 going up a small incline and i couldnt give it enough gas to make it downshift, thats when the nasty vibration would come when it did act up. I'm wanting to think that it was the converter locking at to slow of a speed and replicating like your in a manual in to high of a gear.

Check your trans fluid level. Also how many miles on the current trans fluid? If its over 100k (really if its over 60k), 12 quarts of toyota WS would do it some good.

No telling. I bought this truck roughly 6 months ago, and on the car fax report, I've never seen a report on it being done. That was something I definitely planned on doing. And I have 186,500miles on the truck. I know to this issue isn't due to lack of maintenance for the engine. I just put brand new spark plugs in it. I made sure to go to toyota and buy the oem denso plugs. Cleaned the maf sensor with the crc maf cleaner. And I also cleaned the throttle body with crc throttle body cleaner.

@186k miles with no history of trans maintenance. ABSOFUCKINLUTLY take the time to drain n drop the pan, replace the filter screen, clean pan magnets, then proceed to fill and cycle new fluid in (12qts total).

I definitely planned on doing this soon. I was going to have a good friend of mine that's a mechanic work on it on the side for me. What he planned on is doing what you said about the filters and magnets. I plan to supply him with 15 quarts of the toyota ws fluid. He told me a good way to flush it without a machine is to drain the pan, once you fill it, run it on a lift and get it up to speed and let it cycle all the fluid. And keep changing it and repeat till the fluid is clean. Even then, I still want to tune it as TNshooter said. I'm sick and tired of this truck being in overdrive at 35mph. It's lugging the engine. You guys have answered my question. Plus, gave me some more info. Thank you guys. Appreciate it.

Have a read through this. This is the proper way to do a fluid exchange on our truck

do a drain n fill on your trans. Follow the steps in this forum for doing that and getting the correct level. Add some lubegard anti shudder as well. When you’re in check mode and draining through the check port, once the fluid begins to drain differently, put the plug in. It will be slight over filled. Your trans operates better slight over filled than if it’s under filled. You potentially won’t get that 35-40 shudder anymore.
