buddies want to try wheeling the first time, I'm keen to show them

was thinking to do Valley of the Moon/Gatekeeper as I've already done it (have the confidence to do again) but it's raining

is rain to be avoided? I don't know if it improves or worsens traction.
I know on a dry dusty day, that loose sand is slippery

I've always been told avoid trails in rain as it's considered damaging nature. That the tires groove deeper in, then it dries to that shape, basically ruining the trail for anybody else after.
Though I'm sure even wheeling dry still gradually wears away sand.
Which is probably why Gatekeeper had rocks stacked up at the bottom from previous people

I really want to go up Heart Attack Hill but don't know if my truck can do it.
Guy in video has more lift, bigger tires, lockers
    Mine is not as built.

It's almost dangerous on some trails, we've cut losses and headed back home due to rain. We were sliding into ditches at each other.

It all depends on regions and drivers. I hate wet wheeling.

Even though gatekeeper for example has sand, there's rocks where the tire catches grip dry
that grip will probably be gone wet

It really depends on the trail. If I'm playing for fun and it's a clay-bearing top layer, then no, I don't like being the asshole that further ruts it out. But I'm the lone raindrop that refuses to contribute to the flood in that matter.

depends on your mood, if i was taking someone out for a first time run maybe not wet, just in case there is some trail side problems, now i have some friends who i know if there is wet and there is mud, they will have way more fun. but again. read your group because digging a friend out in dry is usually cooler than mud on everything or the one random who didn't dress right.

yeah the replies confirm it I'm probably not gonna go in rain, can always wait

the goal is always to not get stuck, and recovery equipment a last resort that can even sometimes be dangerous

plus like you said, truck and clothes get more dirty

I once dug myself out of sand with a shovel for an hour, not fun

i one had a friend call me out who buried a 2500 Ram Cummins in a field, I was the only person with a truck big enough to get a winch line out, still took me and a friend's 72 K2500 to pull them free. still took us some digging a whole lot of rocks thrown in a hole. i had the time of my life... my friends wife was super pissed off in that ram for a few hours pulling and digging.

Where I live if you're off road you're in mud. This started as snow and turned to rain. But I don't deal with a lot of steep, rocky terrain. I'd not try many of those trails in the rain.

I’ve done Imogene in the rain I was very nervous because in my head that trail was scarier than reality but I was in Colorado so I was like fuck it, it worked out to my favor because I think it kept a lot of people away as there were very few people on trail and imo the most dangerous aspect of Imogene is the cross traffic

I’ve wheeled a bunch and it seems to rain every single time.

I must be doing it wrong.

If you're going out to the desert, you should be alright if you stay away from any climbing. It's all sand out there. Hard to get stuck in wet sand. Plenty of trails you can do without getting into any rocks. Flash flooding will be more the concern. Go out, have some fun, just don't go doing anything stupid.
