I did some quick research on here but couldn't find much on AT&T stuff, and I apologize if there is already a similar thread floating around out there. I can upgrade in April and I am looking to buy a smart phone. My carrier is AT&T and I wanted to ask TacomaWorld for opinions. I think I'd like to stay away from the iPhone, mainly because I don't have an Apple computer, I already have an iPod with all the storage space i'll ever need, and I like the customizing capability with the android OS. So what do you guys think would be the best Android phone AT&T? Thanks for your input TW

I'm going with the HTC Inspire 4G. I believe it now has froyo and the reviews on the phone have been all good aside from battery life but what do you expect with a phone that can do so much. The screen is huge but great touch recognition so its super responsive and you have the capability of 4G if you ever can use it. Wouldnt really recommend the Motorla Atrix 4G because it is pretty much a worthless buy if you dont get the laptop dock with it and you dont get a whole lot from the computer aside from internet. But if you're on the go and like to have a laptop to use to search the internet then that might be the phone for you. Just be ready to spend $500 on it. My opinion HTC Inspire > Motorola Atrix

I have a blackberry Torch and I really like it. I had an Iphone for 29 days and returned it to get the blackberry. I wasn't for me. My wife has a new Samsung Captivate with the Android OS and I really like it too. Android is much easier to customize than the Iphone and they have a ton of apps too. I might look into the new Motorola Atrix 4g soon.

I would go with the Iphone if I was through AT&T...

But I'm through Verizon and have the Droid X and its the best phone I have ever had.

Your two main reasons for not going with an iphone are sort of irrelevant. You don't need an apple computer what so ever for an iphone. After playing with and using many of the new android phones I am 100% confident in my choice of an iphone. Absolutely love it. And if you aren't satisfied with the options for customization on an iphone you can just jailbreak it and do anything you want to it.

The iphone to me now is just so boring, dont get me wrong its a great phone but nothing new is really going on besides the face time and 4G they'll be coming out with which they should have done on the iphone 4 IMO. There are new ways to customize the iphone now though which I like in some ways.

I realize that. I just want something different, seems like everybody and their brother has or wants an iPhone. My brother even has one, and I think its better to explore my other options, and I think the Android OS fits my needs a little better.

I don't know anything about jail breaking an iPhone, does that void any type of warranty?

I am not sure if it voids it, it might. I think if you take it to apple though and you're having a problem with your phone and its jailbroken they might have to refuse repair because you caused the problem possibly by messing with the phone. It is kind of fun to have it jailbroken but with my experience when I did it, it slowed the phone down significantly and ended up restoring it.

I was reading a few reviews for the Atrix and they were all different, some good some bad. Let me know how yours works out for you. Anybody else with a Motorola Atrix?

Most of the bad reviews I've seen have to do with the streaming audio app causing the link to fail after a period of time requiring the phone to be shut off and restarted. Others are on the 4G uploads, which hasn't officially been rolled out yet. People were thinking it was working in 4G because the H+ icon was showing but I guess there's no 3G icon so it shows the H icon instead. I think the upload speed is supposed to be remedied in a month or two when HSPA officially goes live. It's currently an issue with most Android phones on AT&T.
