Yes, but more likely by fire lol!
People are finding out the truth about EV’s, as more owners are duped into them.

They’re finding that cold temperatures are a no go (much shortened range), hot climate shortens battery life and coastal environments can be a fire hazard to name a few.

Moreover, the quality is not there. And even though the quality of any totally new product is unproven, when you’re paying $50k+, it can be a devastating experience, as some are now finding out, the hard way.

On top of all that, as the numbers increase, the price of electricity will most surely sky rocket, unfortunately for all of us. I can almost guarantee it. Thanks EV.

But you’re gonna look good ;)

When the third gen was being designed, 6 speed was norm still across many products. Now, not such much. I think the Tundra is the peek up the skirt for Toyota’s design priorities. My money is on the same Tundra 10 speed or a flavor of it. Hybrid will obviously have an eCVT. Manual is dead.

My guess is it will be the 8 speed in the 2022 Lexus NX350.

Isn't that a Front Wheel Drive based vehicle though?

I’d guess it’s going to be the same engine. I’m sure with the new platform they will keep them mated together.

Right I would expect the same engine too, but guessing not a front drive based transaxle in a body on frame truck.

Right now, hybrid trucks do not have direct connection to the axles.

There will be a standard slushbox transmission with a hybrid plate sandwiched in. 100%. How many gears? Probably 8.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oghwzU0FHbI It's not a perfect explanation. But this is 100% what tacoma will look like. Engine, plate, trans.

Lexus RWD models have the same thing. It's a hybrid, but no where near as efficient as its transaxle siblings. The motor is too small, and the battery is half the size it would need to be.

The F150 Lightening is the first to have proper electric propulsion and regen from the axles, but it has independent rear suspension to match.

not unlike many other new vehicles unfortunately, that hybrid tundra is a tech cluster **** that is not only costly upfront, but is guaranteed to not be relatively trouble-free for 250K miles and will be expensive to repair.

i would love to hear from someone that purchases that vehicle what their reasons were. and, from toyota marketing as to how they thought the new tundra was going to gain them market share in that segment. they would've been better off with a NA torquey efficient V6 similar to what Ford and Ram offer, that they could market as achieving 25MPG highway, affordable, and reliable. i know, easier said than done. but they missed the mark with this truck regardless of the configuration.

You are right. Ford/GM managed to make two versions (Long/trans) of their 10 Speed that’s used across their production lines. Perhaps Aisin will do same for their 8 speed transmission. Or maybe they will do the same for their 10 speed. The 10 speed in my Tundra shifts smooths smoothly, however, there is an occasional clunk with the first shift of the day. I would guess the drivetrain will go into the next Gen 4 Runner as well.[/QUOTE]

I think the 10 speed is only used in RWD applications. There's a 9 speed for transverse.
