Ok this is good stuff... I called Toyota and explained my possible solution regarding video.

She said that wouldnt be an option because I am operating the vehicle outside the parameters established by toyota. I said you mean vehicles are only tested and designed for a specific speed limit? She said yes. I said so If I took my truck to Arizona where the speed limit is 70 instead of 65 I would then have a case if the noise was produced at 70 because thats the speed limit? She said yes because Toyota manufacturers trucks based on the state they are going to!!! I was like wait a minute so If I buy a truck in California and drive to another state then I can expect it to possibly not perform as it would in California? YES!!!!! hahaha Oh my god now I am really at a loss for words with Toyota. I hope someone that works at Toyota reads this and can foreward all this BS to someone who actually cares about the company they work for. I can not believe what I was told.

I guess if you own a Toyota you would be advised to not drive it out of state because it may fail!!!

I asked her if Toyota believes that a windshield vibrating and whistling over 55mph is normal and should be expected regardless of state, she said well we can't say if its normal or not. My goodness Toyota are you for real?

She said we have already done the authorized repair and so no other repair is authorized. It doesnt matter if it fixes the problem or not. Basically Toyota is banking on the consumer saying well screw it I guess I have to live with it or fix it myself. Very good way to do business.

It sucks, but that is the business world right there. They will never admit they are wrong and will always try to get out of it.

To the O.P. If the truck is pretty new and you spent a decent amount of time with the salesman who you bought it from you might consider contacting him/her. I have heard of people going back to the person you dealt with and telling them your story. You might just find your salesperson is actually human and not a greedy sack of shit...

Sadly I had multiple problems with the sale from the orginal dealership I purchased it from. I would never go back to that dealership under any circumstances.

I have to be honest. I'm 42 and have bought and sold who knows how many cars trucks and jeeps in my life. This has been THE WORST purchase of my life so far. Its to the point now where my girlfriend and I just laugh about it. I am not even angry anymore now its just like a big joke and a ok whats next Toyota what do you got for me? haha

Wow, I would have asked to talk to her boss for lying like that. First of all the trucks are built on 50 state emissions, which means they're qualified for all legal conditions in all 50 states. Also, the speed limit is 75 in Arizona, and 80 in northwest Texas.

I came from Infiniti before this, and going from "yes sir we'll get that taken care of no problem" with a free loaner G35 sedan to "Fuck off its' not broke" while the shit is hanging off the truck in front of them... yea its' a big change.

Don't get me wrong, the product itself is great. Toyota's service is horrendous though.

I don't mean to be all sentimental, but you figuring out how to get this fixed could help other people. Yes, you could say "fuck it" like it seems you have, and just get it fixed yourself, or you could work the proper channels and get toyota to work it out. I'm just saying that there are many more positive qualities about this truck than this one negative, and focusing on the negative is going to make you resent your truck, which I know you don't want. Try going to a new dealer and be really nice about what you think the problem is on the diagnostic test ride and if they don't hear it, just nicely ask them if they could run some tests for it because you know you are having some problems. Maybe reference the tsb somebody else posted on this thread. I have found that a smile and a positive attitude with toyota people has gotten me far (imagine all the people who bitch and moan in their face, they definitely are not going to go the extra mile to help them out). It's at least worth a shot if you really hate the noise and want them to fix it. Toyota is a business, and they honestly could give a rats ass about tacomaworld.com and how much we love it.

Just trying to be positive for you...

Hey bro read through the thread. I'm not saying fuck it all I am taking this as far as I can take it. I am simply not getting angry about it. Again read through the thread you will see I want very much to love my truck and Toyota and I'm giving them every opportunity to make this right. At each step of truck ownership Toyota has failed me as a consumer yet I continue in the process. I'm not giving up and I am not trying to say Toyota is a piece of shit I am merely relating my experience so that hopefully others who have these problems will also step up and demand Toyota make them right. Its for the good of us all including Toyota. Everybody makes a lemon once in a while but its what you do with that lemon that makes all the difference.

You are right. I made the mistake of not finishing the thread like I should have. I saw you post this and wanted to tell you to hang in there:

In further reading I see that you just want it fixed and are past the dealers and can't wait to get your mods started. I wish the best of luck to you.

Worthless was probably a bit strong of a word to use and at the time I was probably still a bit angry over this but time heals all wounds and the further along I go the less angry I become and the more I just have to laugh. In reality Im sad. Sad that the company I want to love is treating me like a red headed step-child (no offense to any red headed step-children on the forum).

Yeah well they all suck. Toyota just sucks a little less.

My wife and I have 2 vehicles ... an efficient little "run-about" for commuting, and road trips, and a truck for hauling and playing and camping. Our little efficient gas miser is a Subaru. Awesome quality. The ONLY car company to gain in sales and market share during the recession ... a 15% increase in sales. And deserving of every bit. If Subaru actually made a truck, I'd be all over it. Best damn quality out there right now.

But when it comes to trucks, Toyota is the best choice. But yeah they do have problems. So do Colorados and Wranglers and Cherokees and Rams and Rangers and F150s and Frontiers and Ridgelines .. and on. So I hear you. I wish the quality was better for what we pay. But when it comes to trucks, I still think you won't find a better truck than the Tacoma ... problems and all.

    And as a PS ..

the problem with the leaf springs isn't a problem. It's a deliberate move because most Americans prefer a "car like" ride in their trucks. So Toyota uses 3-leafs down here. In Mexico and Canada and most of the rest of the world, Toyota uses the 4-packs. My service manager didn't argue with me at all on the leaf spring TSB ... he even gave me a free oil change and tire rotation while they were at it. Impeccable service from my dealer.

Just because of the windshield thing? I know you've owned this thing for like a month. What else? The springs? Like I said in my post just above this one, maybe that's all your dealer. It's a choice of comfort, and when I went to my service dealer (who actually is not the selling dealer) and said I wanted a truck and not a car-like ride, they jumped all over it and treated me exceptionally well. But what else are you experiencing that has soured you so much? I'm kind of hearing some buyer's remorse here, and I wonder is it all about the truck? Or is there something else going on here?

I have 3 windshields seals myself.. it just keeps coming back..

i understand its very annoying, mine is alot worse than the video you posted.. and thats just one of the problems my 2010 has...

just wait until the blower motor starts squealing.. im also on my 3rd.. and the 4th is on back order.

also on my 2nd chrome bumper and its rusting as well..

    money well spent, i'd say..

    resale value? none..

i took my truck to a ram dealer last week to see about trading it because ive had enough of the crap from my 2010. they offered me 22k for it.. and they laughed, told me 2010's dont have the resale that the previous years do..

i looked at 07's and 08's with more mileage than mine selling for 28-29k right now..

all the used 2010's are selling under 25k.

I worked at Toyota for 4 years and I've never heard of this problem until I got married.. my wife's corolla does it all the time, anything over 70mph or even 55 with strong winds. I hope my truck doesn't start with that shit, because her's is CONSTANT. On 9thgencorolla.com there is a DIY fix someone made, you apply sealant above the top of the edge of windshield and smooth it out, there is a tiny gap that produces the noise. I haven't tried it yet, (mainly because i dont drive her car anymore) but have read many reviews of "this works."

And @ SIGHLESS, you ever think they were just low-balling you and feeding you bullshit? Try going to KBB or Edmunds and estimating your trade in value first. Just because they're asking 28-29k does not mean in anyway should you pay that, you should be able to get them down atleast 5k.

i did.. econoomy is a whole different game in canada.. but trust me. you guys in the states will see your 2010 resale value drop...

its not like the 09's or even the 08's which have better resale.

I don't see why, it's the same truck with additions like a-trac. The blower motor issue has plagued the Tacoma's since 05. My 08 had the same problem my 10 had on that. As for the rusting chrome... well that's why I live in Arizona, and get rid of chrome to start with. For what it's worth, my 2010 rear bumper hasn't rusted at all being in the pacific northwest since mid January.

No, but pressurized air can. I've used it to find similar problems. Just hook up the blow nozzle to the air compressor, crank it up.
