Don’t know a ton about sycamore but I do know that i loved it for bowdrilling when I taught primitive skills.

I bring that up to say even if it’s categorized as a hardwood it’s still fairly soft

They grow all over the place here and they're so beautiful. I'd love to use some for something. :)

    Thank you!

I made this for my son a few years ago and it’s sparked a few others since.

    Thanks :)

I did make it clear to him that it truly is custom, hand-made furniture of a quality level that simply cannot be bought in a store.

The top and legs are cherry. The rest is sycamore. Sycamore is soft like pine but it machines easy. Quarter sawn has flecks in it.

I would not use red oak for a writing platform. It is open grained and might catch your writing utensil. I would use cherry or maple.

A bit, but then I went for the drum sander, then the 125 to take it to 180 grit. I’m liking what I’m seeing so far!

I gave my daughter the choice of either solid walnut, or the stripes. She chose the stripes, curly maple and cocobolo. I’m liking that combination more than I thought I would.
