I need an ECU. Does anyone think a refurbished one is better than a junk yard pull or is it an item that should be replaced with a new one? If a refurbished on is decided on, has anyone purchased on and who would you recommend?

Thank you for your time on this question.

Been rocking an 85$ ecu from a pull off of ebay for a few years now, no issues. Just make sure if the same part number as whats on your truck.

That stated, again what makes you think you need an ECU?

This truck is a fixer upper from a front end collision. I have repaired most all codes but I am stuck with a P2716 code. Diagnosing that code to the end recommends to replace an ECU. I also have a P0606 code which says is a processor fault. I am thinking that maybe both are related and an ECU is cheaper then replacing a transmission. It is throwing out the check engine light and I need it cleared to be able to smog in California.

Toyota/Denso ECU's rarely give much trouble unless it's getting quite old and the caps start leaking or something. Used is probably the way to go for this.

Part numbers that are correct for your truck:

    89661-04B80, 89661-04B81, 89661-04B82, 89661-04B83

There may be others that are interchangeable, but those are the exact part numbers.

Search ebay for the same part number on the ecu thats in the truck. You should be able to find one. Do note if you are v6 you will have to do the immobilizer resync for the chipped key.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I have used all the above with good results .

Going used I bought local , Refurbished ECM Depot out of Grand Prairie Tx

2 brand new from my local dealer.

Must be at least 5 years so far so good.

Did you get your ECU programmed or did you do it yourself? I was wondering if it could be done with techstream.

Providing you get the same part number as is on the PCM in your truck the only thing that needs to be done is the immobilizer reset as @nd4spdbh said. The VIN in the PCM should be changed to match your truck too but that step isn't needed to make it run, VIN read/write can be done with many higher end aftermarket scan tools you don't have to have Techstream to do it.

As others have said though I'd suspect a wiring or other problem before a PCM as they typically don't fail unless they get water damaged or some other outside event damages them.
