Here’s the module I used if you’re interested op.
Wife’s car has RAB so it went under the seat and took like two minutes to install.
Without that feature I guess it gets installed behind the head unit
Oh damn! That’s WAY better. Thanks for the info!

Our 2020 Explorer has it. Is a non-issue. The engine is running long before I can get my foot from the brake pedal to the gas pedal. I can disable by pressing a button, but if for some reason I don't want the engine to stop all I need to do is slightly reduce pressure on the brake pedal just as I stop, and the engine keeps running.

Everybody hates new technology until they don't. My dad's first car didn't come with a heater because most drivers didn't want one. It had to be added aftermarket for those who wanted it. Everybody hated seat belts at first. My mom was convinced they would kill drivers since they wouldn't be thrown free from a crashing car.

I was going to make this argument in a different thread last night but held back.
I hope I never get to a point where I resent technological progress. It’s like, the only thing humans have got going for them lol

We had a Honda CR-Z Hybrid with auto start-stop. Not fun when stuck in traffic in July-August in the blazing hot sun and humidity... with A/C compressor not running.

Yeah that would not make me happy.

Last one I drove was my mom's Merc C class. AC still blows cold when the engine is shut down.

Maybe electric compressor? The Honda compressor stopped with the engine, and the interior blower fan went to a lower speed. And you got sopping wet rather quickly . . . :annoyed:

NO area? As a former Houston resident, I understand this 100%. Some days, AC or no AC, you can chew the air. Only time my house flooded was when the AC drip pan couldn't keep up with the humidity.

Yeah, in that environment, that would be a definite deal breaker. I gots to have my AC.

thank you for this, we have the RAB feature so, ours appears a super easy install. I HATE the auto start/stop/start feature on our 22 Forester. ordered one, 100 well spent. now if it will remember the eyesight off settings too, LOL. hate that even more. LOL! every time I get in the car it is the first 2 buttons I hit. but, after each key cycle, or start button sequence, they reset to default on. looking into holding the eyesight button for 5 seconds, to put system into standby, and see if that keeps it off. glad the tacomas dont have this. thank you again! I dunno… that’s only 82 years at 10 starts a day. Lol

But let’s look at serious numbers. Let’s say your commute has 10 lights and 5 4-way stops that are 2 cars deep. That’s 50 starts round trip if each one triggers. That’s still 16 years. Yeah, we’re good to go.

I also hear that they are careful with where the engine stops in the cycle, electric oil pumps to keep the transmission under pressure, etc. I think they’ve thought through a bunch of this. Hopefully the engineering followed.

My wife’s RDX doesn’t remember, so I bought a module that basically pushes the button for her about 5-10 seconds after it senses power.

My Macan remembered. It has a long memory because I turned that off on day 1.

My Cayman has it too, in a manual no less. But it has a good memory too. It does have a nice feature unrelated to emissions though. On the few occasions I’ve actually stalled it, pushing in the clutch fires it right off again.

Glad I found this thread. Just ordered my 2023 Tacoma TRD and the first thing I was researching was the button to turn the start-stop function.

    Thanks
