can anyone recommend a good pillow? i need a pretty decent one, not to worried about weight. i have an old injury in my neck that cause so much pain that i nearly blackout. the only time it hurts is when i don't have my head properly supported while sleeping.

I got that from Bass Pro Shops for about $10.... I love it. I too have a neck injury and that works wonders. Sometimes I even pull it out in the house if I cant get comfortable

I just took an extra down pillow I had and had it chopped in half and then sewn up. I also had grams chop a pillow case in half and make pillow case for each pillow. Now I have two great little down pillows for camping.

I like the Quixote Synthetic Pillow. It's got great support, decent loft, and is synthetic.

    http://www.rei.com/product/814938

    But damn, is it pricey.

The GF has the Therm-A-Rest Compressible.

    http://www.rei.com/product/719843

It's got good support and packs down nicely. A little heavy for my tastes, but it's lighter than the Quixote, just not as nice.

    SCORE!

I got a SOG 3-piece outdoor kit from Woot.com and it came in today.

Only $45 after shipping, it comes with the folding camp saw, entrenching tool and hand axe, all with nylon sheaths.

Initial opinions: Damn this stuff is heavy. They're all made from aircraft aluminum, and the axe especially is weighty. This is definitely a car-camping/long-term backcountry living kinda kit. The only thing I would even consider taking backpacking would be the saw.

The entrenching tool is not much bigger than a garden trowel, but not bad. The nylon sheaths are crappy (I prefer cordura) and I think they'll fall apart pretty easily.

But since this retails for about $63 on Amazon, I think it's a nice little score. Will definitely make firewood and basic campsite maintenance a lot easier.

I went backpacking in the Sipsey Wilderness in Alabama last weekend for two nights. It poured the first day/night so we slept in a cave and even had a fire. Saw some awesome 40ft water falls. It was a pretty technical single track trail. Backpacking is definitely my new favorite way to camp because you get so far out there. So now I'm in the market for a backpack, some hiking boots, and maybe a new sleeping bag. Mine is about 5 lbs and doesn't roll up small enough.

Me and my buddies are backpacking to White Ledge Campground in the Los Padres National Forest this weekend. This is our first camping trip that we're actually backpacking to so its relatively short. Gunna test out that Camp Trails pack that i found too.

nice for extended stay camping, but probably way to heavy for biking, or backpacking. These remind me of the cabelas wall tents

I am planning something in a few months. I have not completely decided what I want to do yet but I am thinking about doing some of the Benton Mackaye/ Coker Creek trail in the TN/NC area.
