What’s funny is that I was just explaining to my partner in the office why the oil actually mattered a lot on getting my 7.3 started in the cold with its HEUI injection. Fucker wouldn’t run for shit on 15w-40 in the cold but never failed to start on 5w-40

I tried to refill my cases in Chicago February (that should be it's own season) with the 140w and it was like trying to squeeze aunt Jemima syrup in there LOL!! If I had to drive the truck in below zero temps, I would let it warm up in 1st gear, rear case N, for a long ass time and it made a big difference when I would hit the road.

In before a bunch of 3rd gen owners from socal start saying warming up vehicles in cold weather doesn't do anything...

My 6.0l was similar. The HEUI stuff gets finicky especially when the injectors are getting up there in mileage. I had decent luck with T6 5W40 and archoil when it was below 40

@Dayman Karate stumbled on this 5th gen 4Runner build with a front 4-link and hydro, looks pretty similar to where you are headed.

Dunno what the market near you is like but a couple years ago in Denver I picked up a 130k mi 3.4 out of a rolled truck for $500 and got to see it run before they pulled it. Weekend to swap it and you're back on the trail

6.0 injectors are a nightmare with stiction issues compared to 7.3’s just having to fight the romps cold . Mine got a steady diet of T6 too, spendy oil change every 5k with 4 gallons required!

I’d just get a complete used motor imo

I don't know for certain on a 1st gen, but the first place I generally check is the fuel injector.

Yeahhh it was a grumpy bastard, if I didn't get the oil temp above like 100 before driving when it was below freezing outside some injectors would stick open and it would just blow raw fuel out the exhaust during warm up lol. Not the best or most convenient thing to wait on every time you need to go somewhere

have y'all had any trouble getting T6?

Its been really short around here and I was going to have to order online. amsoil 5W40 diesel synthetic comes out to about the same price shipped and had better availability so I switched to that in the 6.7l.

It was bad for me in early 2022 on pretty much any kind of Rotella product. We run T4 in the trucks at work and I was able to get a 55 gallon drum of it since it was unavailable in normal consumer quantities.

My 6.7 gets whatever the cheapest brand name syn 5w-40 is on the shelf at the local farm store. Normally Valvoline or M1 if it's on sale. I'm way less particular now that the 6.7 really doesn't care as long as there is oil in it.

yeah it’s for a tach. I’m 90% sure the crank sensor can give a tach feed but won’t know u til I get it running. The Holley ecu has a loose pin for it so just want to have a backup plan. All the Toyota ecu plug pins work w engine sensors which are gone so I was a little confused.
