This. I have had mine off for some time now, and with the new suspension I don't come close to the body roll I had before with the OR shocks and springs (sans sway bar.) I hit something big (at a reasonable speed mind you) and hidden in the snow the other day and it didn't transfer across the truck. The truck also just sat down like my RC truck-NICE!

My first trip with the battery + fridge setup it was both unseasonably warm and cold over the course of a 3 week period. With a 206Ah battery and running the fridge on normal mode (i.e. not "eco" mode, using most energy), I figure it would last about 5-8 days in hot weather if not charged at all, and possibly 10-14 days or more when it's cold. Really shocking how efficient they can be. Always figured they'd be pigs but I was delighted to find that is no longer the case. Keep in mind my non-scientific figures are using an 80% discharge on the battery which is very modest, I could go longer if I stretch the DoD.

This past year I didn't travel as much as normal but was still out 40-50 days/nights. I think for that amount of time it's worth it but that's me. I'm also adding lots more 12V stuff later so that skews my decision making. Most people don't need as much, 100Ah batteries are cheap and ubiquitous nowadays.

PM me if you want to talk elk!

Ok, I like this! Bear with me and I'll get it.

I think we might need to do some nominations.

personally, @Shellshock has probably spent more of my money than anyone. BUT, I have not regretted a single cent. The things that come to mind:

-Rigid D-SS ditch lights: I'd buy these again 100×.

-Silky Saw: same as above, and anyone who has seen it in action seems to want one.

-Wavian fuel can: I filled mine in Wisconsin at roughly 0°F ambient temperature. I drove to Florida with it in the 4Runner, and ambient temperature of ~85°F when I arrived. Never smelled a hint of gas. When I finally opened it in Florida, there was so much pressure that gas shot out all over me. But, it never leaked! Great recommendation!

    Exactly this!

Stop! You're making too much sense! :goingcrazy:

This is really the question, and I think it comes down to how you travel.

Anyone who is regularly off the grid for more than a few days at a time can probably rationalize a fridge.

But, if you generally end up at a fuel station twice a week or more, you can certainly keep buying ice.

I'm kind of at a point where I could go either way. But, I already have a nice cooler, so it's harder to justify the cost of a fridge.

Alright, let's see some nominations for who is the best/worst at spending others' money here.

It could be influence by making you want the mods they have, or influence by encouraging financially irresponsible behavior, or just by informing the group about products we didn't know that we needed.

Let's hear it! Who's the best/worst influence here!!??

I'm nominating @Shellshock for making me buy so many great things!

Yeah but then you gotta get ice. Lose half your cooler to ice and after a bit all your stuff is floating in water

it can also double as a garage, deck, basement beer fridge when not in use in the vehicle.

^^ This, exactly. Funny enough I've never had a good cooler. Bought a realy nice Engel 35(?) quart not long before I got the fridge. Cooler is nice, 35qt still just isn't enough for what I've been doing lately. After using the fridge I'm hooked.

I nominate everyone who kept mentioning the RCI sales last year - don't remember who though. I now have all the skids lol. @Taco-Grinder is pretty good at "encouragement", and I'd say @Supr4Lo gave me lots of good/bad ideas the first time I saw the setup on the Pipeline. Mostly it's a group effort though and I appreciates you all for that.

For a while when I was figuring out the dynamic of these here forums it was the reverse - we were all quite busy harrassing poor old @Larry Dangerfield to buy another Taco and mod it. So I also nominate everyone for helping him out LOL.

    Daaaaaaaaaamn....

idk, a Yeti cooler wouldn't need much ice and it would keep stuff cool for a month or so, right?

All I can say is I think my Engel can go toe-to-toe with a Yeti and there is zero chance it would last a month. Couple days to a week depending on temperatures. Still much better than your daddy's Coleman cooler but it's not made of magic and faeries. Thermodynamics don't care about marketing.
