What's the deal with Gear Lock? Is it like an additional tune feature?

Yes, the Gear Lock was offered with the 8.0 OTT Tune I got.

You don't have to have it...can go without it if you like.

This is a hard coded feature of the ECU. The slap of the shifter puts the truck in a 1:1 ratio for towing purposes. It's not something that can be altered at this time.

If you're looking for more manual control of the trans, a gear lock tune as @TacoTime55 has mentioned might be something you'd like to try. We'd be happy to make you one to try out and see if that's something you're looking for. We can do a regular shift scheduling in "normal" and a gear lock tune in "ECT".

No a problem at all! If something's not right for you, we'd certainly like to know so we can get it sorted out for you. Glad to hear you're in booked to get things straightened out. From the sounds of it, you gave it a fair shake and it's just not your style - and that's ok! We'll get it right, just be sure to communicate what you're looking for and what you like/dislike. That's always very helpful in helping us dial things in to our clients needs.

We typically use a "gear lock" transmission tune when we're dyno testing. We configure the shift scheduling to prevent a downshift at any point in 3rd gear.

It's popular with some folks for street/towing use, and we modify our dyno settings to include locking the trans in each gear under normal use, while still retaining the ability of the transmission to downshift when coasting or slowing to a stop. It's a special request option for our tunes.

Thanks for the reply i really only use S mode on the highway to keep it from shifting up into 6th just wondering if that kickdown to 4th could be changed. A gear lock tune in ECT would be amazing on the 2.7 along with the tune itself holding the gears will make this truck much more of a blast to drive. As soon as vf releases an update on the 2.7 would is stated for this month will 100% be going the OTT route.

It can be done, however drawback to using a GL tune on the 2nd Gen is there isn't a second set of maps like there is for the 3rd Gen. You'd be stuck using GL 100% of the time. The 3rd Gens typically ask for a GL tune to be configured when the ECT button is depressed which switches to an entirely different set of throttle maps and transmission maps. The 2nd Gen only has the primary maps. We can make a GL specific tune for you so when you need it, you can flash it and then later revert back to your primary tune. If that's something you need be sure to let your tuner know or reach out to us at info@overlandtailor.com and we'll get you taken care of.

We look forward to having you! Be sure to remind us when getting your tune how you'd like it configured. Our GL offerings are done on request.

Can you remind me again, what is your Calibration ID? If you're aware of it.

I'm interested in getting a tune to remove a certain CEL on my 2013 Tacoma which I think means I need to use HPTune. However, no one does it near Kansas City where I live so I'll have to DIY.

Is applying the OTT tune approachable for someone like me- limited tuning experience but willing to follow directions carefully and think critically?

So I just got this tune. I got lite throttle. What does the ECT button do now? I didn’t have anything specifically set to the button.

How do you like it so far? seem worth it? I'm fixing to get tuned this coming weekend so looking for feedback.
I believe ECT is next level, so med throttle setting but thats just what I gathered from reading.

I believe @Boltripper has covered this in your other post.

But our production files generally have the ECT button configured for:
    - Throttle setting one level above non-ECT
    - "Sport mode" transmission tune which revises the shift points further over our standard transmission tune.

Upon request, we can configure ECT to be anything you like. Just communicate with us/your local tuner with what your needs are and what you'd like. We're happy to configure things to meet the client needs.

What configuration would you reccomend for offroad? I'm in montana so testing a setting and making a change isn't as easy and I'm concerned about the jerky offroad in slow bumpy travel.

If you're a mall crawler or pre-runner the "sport" mode we configure as standard for ECT is the ticket. However for someone doing more technical trails we very regularly actually go in the opposite direction with ECT. We go with a less aggressive throttle setting to aid in low speed control and finesse. The higher throttle settings are fun on the street (for some) but they make smooth input a bit more difficult in slow technical terrain. I'd recommend you let your tuner (or us if purchasing direct) know, so we can get you configured with a setting that is more conducive to slow/technical terrain.

What I'd say is test drive (in normal mode, non-ECT) to find what you'd be happy with for street use. Then we'll go down one or two levels for ECT. This has been the hot-ticket for many who use their trucks in the manner you do.

Who is the tuner that's covers Las Vegas? How do I reach out to him? I would like to update my OTT tune from 7.0 and my brother loves my tune and would like to get his Tacoma tuned as well. Is there a cost to update my existing OTT Tune? TIA
