The other night i was driving home from work and my gas light came on. I was on the freeway driving 55 and set the trip. I didn't wanna stop to fill up yet cuz i didnt wanna use my credit card and if i waited until midnight i would get my direct deposit. so i decided to cruise and see how long i could go. I made it 16 miles with the light on and i finally pulled over to filled up when the clock hit 12.

Has anyone ever recorded how long it takes for the truck to die when the fuel light is on

    I have a 3.4 auto xcab w/ 32's, cai, superturbo muffler.

my gas light likes to play games. it will come on and off for like 15 miles and then it finally stays on, once it finally stays on i will fill up and i usually fill up about 16 gallons. If i fill up when the light first starts to come on and off i will usually fill up about 15 to 15.5 gallons. But you really need to know what your initial mileage is so you can figure out how far you could actually go. But like Christian said, dont run it too low for too long or too often, you'll burn your pump up!

The farthest I've gone with the light on was 48 miles and the tank took 17.5 gallons of fuel. I average 18.5 mpg.

I work exactly 25 miles from home, after the light comes on to stay on my first gen I can go to work and back and drive around town a bit.

But ima tell you, I get so nervous every time I look at that light my butt-hole draws up!

Christ, fellas. Do a search on the topic. There are a lot of miles left after the light comes on...

Seriously! If you want to help others... then tell us HOW MANY GALLONS you put in when the light comes on. In your owner's manual it will tell you how many GALLONS your tank holds... I had a 2001 and it was a 20 gallon tank. I don't recall the point the light came on, but it was and is still between a 1/4 tank line and the E LINE on the gauge (which is still 2-3 gallons left in the tank).

Now, my 2010 is a 21 gallon tank. The E light comes on always when I am down to 4 gallons left in the tank (17 gallons to fill)... At 17 MPG that means I can drive 68 miles before running out... Something NOBODY should ever do!

Not too mention all the sediment and contaminants settle at the bottom so when you run it low on purpose all that gets sucked through your injectors..

My manual shows 18.5 gallon fuel cells for 4WD and prerunner models.

My low fuel light never comes on ;)

Because I usually never let it get that low and because I don't think that the light works. lol

Some lift, some armor, some scratches..
Neither does mine, but I think it must be broken. I'v intentially ran it as low as possible, finally filling up and putting in 17.4Gal!

Is there an easy way to check the "low fuel" light to see if it is blown?
