In your case I would use an APC diluted or P&S brake buster, but be mindful hot surfaces and painted wheels.

Iron decon sprays are for removing embedded rust, brake dust (iron). Clay is more an all purpose paint/glass scrubber (bug guts, industrial fall out, ect.)
Claybar introduces scratches from dragging removed debris across the surface whereas iron decon sprays don't, but iron sprays can damage surfaces if left to dry or sprayed on hot surfaces. Different tools for different applications sometimes one or the other or both work better. If using clay kneed and fold frequently to minimize the amount of junk being dragged across the surface. That way there's less to polish/paint correct after.

I don't see much there either...if looking for rust, check underneath the truck....much easier chance of finding some.

Looks like the previous owner laid something longer over that portion of the roof while using the bed of the truck. Not a huge deal as ill be wrapping the roof

So I pulled my post cause I was gonna say try using a bug remover maybe it’s stains. But the pics of the back of your cab looks like someone hauled furniture and it rubbed the cab.
A rust converter but it will leave black spots?

So Im at my local Lordco and everybody here is looking at my crazy when I ask if they have an ‘iron remover’ spray like the Adams brand mentioned above

They suggested I use this over the iron remover, and gave me a small amount for free to try. Just worried it will make the problem worse or not do anything at all

Ill have to order the iron remover online I guess

If you are not familiar with using rubbing compound, yes you can make it worse. You need polishing compound, and finishing compound after that. Just clay bar it.

Dunno what lordco is but iron remover is legit stuff. Can you get us a better picture of the issue that is taken with a post 1999 camera? Sorry hard to tell what’s what and if you have damage or just blurry rain drops etc.

Even if you plan to cover the roof, you want to get rid of any rust first otherwise it will just grow underneath and make an appearance in the future.

Iron remover only removes rust from the metal that is stuck in paint, not the metal itself. Clay bar pulls the metal out.

Yea I agree with the above comments. That 3m compound is really good but it’s a 3 step process at minimum. You’ll need the other products to polish it out and finish it up. You’re fine with ordering some iron remover and if that doesn’t take care of most of it, use a clay magic bar. Both are found on Amazon. Make sure you get some lube or spray wax for using the clay bar. Watch some videos on YouTube.

I doubt any dealer will do anything warranty related since it’s not a defect with the paint and more on the surface. It’s always worth a shot.
You can always get the truck detailed, mobile or actual car wash. Ask the detailer to look into taking that off. They’ll usually do it for a couple bucks or no extra charge if you’re already getting it detailed.

Body panels are electroplated from the factory, then given a primer, base coat and top coat. That would very unlikely be rust

3M stuff is super high quality/expensive and very popular in body shops. You'll need a random orbital polisher to get the most out of it though. Try it with a microfiber towel and see what you kind of results you can get. You can always go back with a machine polisher to clean it more.

Good to know. Was surprised that nobody at the automotive shop knew anything about this iron remover spray

TW + Amazon is the best
