I'll definitely be calling them for sure, I had gone to my local Toyota dealership here in Nashville but the lady I spoke with kept insisting that since they don't have a body shop they couldn't help me. I retorted that I just wanted a supervisor or someone to show so that I could start a complaint. Still she was helpless. I have other dealerships ill be taking the problem to. I just wanted to express my issue on a public forum with facebook.

It might be interesting/valuable to include the info as to where the trucks were built: Texas, Baja, other(?). Reason: Less likely this happened at two different plants over all these years and models rather than one plant that has a bad day once in a while with body prep or faulty batches of material every so often. I would suspect it's bad prep: if it was bad primer, paint, etc: you'd expect the entire truck would peel and lose the paint.

My truck is a 2014: Texas. No sign of peeling, but the paint is awfully thin on the upper flat part of the inner fenders under the hood from the windshield forward to the headlamps. It makes me nervous.

I think its been isolated to trucks from Baja Mexico, but there might be others from Texas with problems. My VIN starts with a 3 and as others have stated thats Baja.

This is one of the responses I received from my posting on Toyota USA FaceBook page:

We understand this is not the response you were hoping for, Jay. Please be assured, we've documented your dissatisfaction with our position at our HQ.

Let me know how that works out for you.
There is a poll floating around here somewhere on white paint problems vs no white paint problems. No problems is a huge leader.
While this thread makes it seem like it is a huge horrible issue, in reality it is not. I'm sorry for the guys who have the issue and I wish Toyota would help them but hey... They will do what every other company does and analyze risk.

I wonder what the numbers are of Texas vs Baja Mexico built Tacomas that are on the road? I don't know if the poll takes that into consideration. If not then its more of a general poll, I would say those whos trucks are built in Baja(like mine) seem to be reporting the issue the most. That said it would be logical to conclude there was a problem with the Baja's plant paint processes.

Yea the poll in this thread is 50 50 but the other one is about 3:1 with no issues.
And, I think they had issues before a plant in Baja.

2017 here. Mexico VIN. 60 spots documented with pictures from my dealer. They used painter’s tape to do the test.

So Toyota is finally owning up to their crappy job? Or is your dealer trying to help you out? My local toyota dealer (Findlay Toyota Prescott) is utterly worthless. They make their money by selling Rav4s at over MSRP to old people who don't know any better.

Would you be willing to share the phone number you called at Toyota regarding your paint issue?

I’ve had problem’s recently myself so I came here to find others with the same issue. I tagged Toyota USA on Twitter and got a response that I will try to show everyone. I stay cordial with them because I knew what they would probably say. I’m just really hoping they fix this problem.

The dealer gave me the same number that's on the Toyota USA website for Contact Us.

    It's: 1-800-331-4331

"So glad you called, unfortunately Toyota has no extended service programs for your vehicle at this time."

Nothing short of lawsuits from angry white tacoma/4runner/tundra customers will fix it.

Those internet chats are useless. It's some moron on the other end who just sends premade responses.

I called Toyota Customer Engagement at 888-270-9371 to file a complaint a couple times. Also came accross some dealership notifications that included a direct number that I called and left a message especially since it said don't provide this number to customers. I got a call back from Toyota executive office with basically the same bulshit: sorry but your VIN isn't included. Can't locate the exact same memo with the person's number I called but it was the same as this:

"Media contacts (local and national) should receive a consistent message. In this regard, all media contacts must be directed to Cindy Knight (310) 468-2170 in Toyota Corporate Communications. (Please do not provide this number to customers. Please provide this contact only to media associates.)"
