After I installed my bumper, I realized that the winter road slop would raise hell with my winch. I made some covers to keep the slop out. They're not very fashionable, but they do work.DSC_8383.jpg DSC_8385.jpg

Down here in the SE armpit just going to be rain overnight. Not gonna lie I'm bummed about this winter. I saw snow like one day, never even shoveled or snowblowed yet. Don't like it, feels wrong.

No kidding, I'm one of those strange people that loves to drive in snow, but it's been grim this winter so far. Madison will either get a few inches of snow tonight, or half an inch of rain. Ugh.

LOL definitely not bragging, I hate it. I want winter damnit! I kinda like snow. How am I supposed to feign superiority over southerners if I ain't got no snow to cheer for?

I don't mind driving in it, but I'd rather just have snow to make it look like winter. So far it's basically been a gray drab spring but temperatures are cold enough I can't go out and work on stuff. It's the worst of both worlds. Can't even do winter photography, it's all just ugly grey/brown dead nothingness. I need to move up to the U.P. or Ashland or something where the cool kids get snow.

4” of “wintry mix” here… I’d rather have 4’ of snow. It feels like it’s been 20 years since we’ve had a winter with any significant snowfall that lasted all winter

Well... you are welcome to come visit the land of ice and snow any time-especially if you want to shovel and snow blow! It's rained for three days and I still have two feet in the yard...

I have a coworker who is a big skier thought we were getting 4-8" down here. Told him to check the forecast again. Nothingburger with a bit of rain. He's bummed out now.

I bought a new thicker sleeping pad and a new sleeping bag rated to 10°F in my prepping for colder weather camping. 4-season tent to come soon. We have a 3 season porch that's enclosed, but not heated. I slept out there on the floor with my new gear 3 of the last 4 nights very comfortably. Took a thermometer out there last night and it was a pretty consistent 47°. My wife thinks I'm a weirdo, but I want to know my gear before I'm out in the woods! Supposed to get colder next week, so that should be a better test of the limits of the gear and the limits of me.

That's one of the best ways to do it! Test your gear and equipment in a controlled environment with resources around you.

Last thing you want is to realize that an item or piece of gear you've purchased doesn't work for the intended application when you're a long ways from home/help/etc.

That... is why mine is in the bed. Well, and the fact that I like to pull from both ends. And, I'm kinda stoopid cuz I can barely lift the damn thing. But, it don't get slop on it!

You should offer Free Snow Shoveling Classes. No need for pen and paper. Just bring a shovel.

I love your voice of reason Pat... however, great tales don't start with reason. Or, really even any common sense.

I have enough snatch blocks to pull myself backwards. That is, as long as there are enough trees to attach them to. :D

Luckily, I haven't been in a situation where I wanted to pull out backwards, yet.

    This is true!
