Poor old Scotty Kilmer, he's getting bad-mouthed mercilessly.

I don't make a habit of going into the 3rd gen forum (and never ever post there)...
... but the title caught my eye.

One thing in particular made me raise my eyebrows.
A member with a very high post count (who shall remain nameless), said not to worry, we're all gonna be driving EVs soon.
How soon is soon?

Has anyone considered how much copper that's gonna take?
Not to mention nickel, cobalt, lithium, blah blah.
One estimate I've seen says you'll need to at least double the present global copper production alone, just for starters.
And that may be a gross underestimate, because it doesn't account for all the solar panels and wind turbines these people are also demanding.

But hand wave all that away, and consider...
Mining projects require very long lead times to get under way.

 

I bet they actually do after you had a bottle of GG.

How do you dispose of millions of batteries when their life runs out?


I feel doing this is eliminating one problem and creating one problem much bigger and more costly to the environment in the long run . Could I be wrong?
