I wonder if the back window on double cabs will roll down like the Tundra? It’s hard to tell in the spy photos but it doesn’t look like there’s any supports in the middle of the window like current Tacoma’s with sliding rear window.

What? 8 years is long for most manufactuers, just look at Silverado and F150 refreshes. Everyone needs to stop using the 2nd gen run as the standard, it is not the norm for Toyota life cycles.

It's true, but Toyota has been pushing models longer and longer, giving them bigger refreshes before introducing a full model change, etc.

The previous Sienna was in production for almost 11 years.
The current Lexus IS has been in production for 11 years, the previous was 10 years.
The previous Lexus LS was in production for 11 years.
The current 4Runner/Lexus GX has been in production for over 13 years.
The last Land Cruiser/Lexus LX was in production for 14 years.
The last Tundra was in production for 15 years.
The last Sequoia was in production for 15 years.
The FJ Cruiser, which isn't sold here anymore, but has been in production for 17 years.

Still, it doesn't mean I don't agree, I've said it many times, but the current Tacoma is really just a major refresh that happened to coincide with a powertrain revision, and was not a new generation, which is why it shares the same chassis code and VIN's didn't go back to 0 for 4-cylinder models, which still use the same engine. The TRN24x/26x Tacoma has been in production for more than 18 years at 4 different plants.

It's been a long while since there was a new Tacoma.

100 percent agree, I remember when we got the details on the 2016 was like wtf is seatbelt Mike talking about it shares a lot with the 2nd gen and then carmaker’s inside info talking about how they were forced into a “redesign” rather than a complete redesign. But yep I’ve noticed the same. Even my wife’s new 2023 RX350h isn’t really all that new. But this is also why Toyota tends to maintain reliability, small changes and I’m fine with that. However after seeing the issues with the new tundra I may wait this one out for a few years.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I did not see this in the previous pages of this thread. Ever since the new Tundra came out I have disliked the "fumanchu" grill and many have surmised that the new Tacoma will share that design theme. But When the latest spy shots started circulating, you can see that the shape of the front end is very different than that Tundra-like look. Check out the latest spy shot next to the EV rendering from a while back:
    upload_2023-1-19_14-36-51.jpg
Looking at this I think that old EV rendering released by Toyota is actually very much what the new Tacoma will look like. The rearview mirrors are the same. The lower grill has a trapezoidal shape that protrudes out a bit just like the rendering. Looking at the cutouts in the camo, you can see the same location for thin LED fog lights and what I assume is the TSS sensor. Also, in the spy shot, the driver is making a right turn and has the turn signal on. You can just make out the amber LED's of the turn signal as lines of LED's poking through the camo. That tells me that the headlight design in the render is accurate. My guess is for daytime driving lights those three lines will be white, and turn to amber when hazards or turn signal is on.

Summary: I think the new Taco face will follow the EV themes pretty closely and I like!

Yes, the FJ Cruiser was sold in North America until 2014, China until 2015, Australia until 2016, Japan until 2017, but continued to be sold in other markets like South Africa and the Middle East.

2017 was the last year for the manual anywhere though.

I don’t think it will be a carbon copy but if it’s even close I’ll be making a deposit for sure for taco number 14.
