Taco PRO Owners: Interested in a spring upgrade for front?

This spacer is not really needed for the pro suspension (at least not for 2017-2019, 2020+ might of changed when they updated the spring design). The pro suspension has built in taco lean fixes.

Notice the shock on the right side has the spring perch about 1/4 inch higher than the other one. Thats the driver side shock that compensates for the battery, gas tank, and drivers weight.


You can put a 1/4 inch spacer on both sides if you want to add even more lift though.

 

Anyone know the unspung spring height for the ‘20 and newer? I’ve gathered that they are 620 # rate and 2.5ID.

None of the TRD Pro springs 17 - 22 are 2.5" ID. They have all been approximately 3.0" ID

OE Static length is 13.3"

What are you trying to accomplish?

I’ve been looking into possibility of changing out the springs on my Ironman Foam cells and there are only a few springs that can be used. They need to be larger than 2.5” ID, flat top and rounded bottom. The IM springs are about 15.3 free height, so the those new springs would be too short for comfort having on there. The main issue is the smallest rate is 720#. It can make some of the ride stiffer than I’d like. I’m not unhappy with the ride just like seeing what I might be able to do.

No problem, I just wanted to get ahead of the misinformation so people don't accidentally read the incorrect measurements and get the wrong ideas.

Our spring is a little longer than OE but only about a half inch. Not the 2" you need. Sounds like you have high rate, plus a lot of preload on that setup. Are they threaded body and adjustable?

EDIT: just took a quick look at the google machine and it looks threaded. I would call them see if they offer a FLAT (non helical rise) spring perch that you can screw on (I'm fairly certain that will be available). Once you have a flat perch you can start looking at our off-the shelf race springs which are flat ground top and bottom. Easy peasy.

Thanks again Mark, I appreciate the help. I spent a lot of time on google trying to find something that would work as a flat perch, along with the idea of letting the spring sit on the top 2 of the lock nuts without the rounded perch. That’s when I had the higher # springs on. I decided I don’t have enough information to make an educated decision on a flat perch that could work. I considered trying to find one of the other manufacturers threaded perches but the chances of being the same thread and pitch I felt was too low.

Is the actual perch itself threaded, or is it a slip fit? Looks like there are two locking nuts below it, but KINDA looks like it could be slip fit. Which would be very cheap for a machine shop to whip up.

 

the perch is a slip fit on there then the 2 locking nuts. Great advice on having a shop make a perch, I bet I could find someone on TW that is into that type of thing too.

Heads up to those who went the refund route. Mark and Tanner from Eibach were super helpful over the holidays and expedited my refund for the springs and returning my truck to stock. Shout out to Eibach for the excellent customer service!

I personally think it depends on what you are trying to achieve. Westcott would be better for fitting 285/75r16 due to the top hat spacer, which moves the wheel’s full compression position 1/2” lower.

Eibach kit is only a spring, and therefore only changes resting ride height by increasing preload. Since the Eibach kit does not have a top spacer, wheel travel is identical to stock (probably why Eibach doesn’t advertise it as a method for clearing 285/75r16, whereas Westcott does)

I chose the Eibach kit because it has less pieces for the front (1 vs 3), and my goal is to gain back some ride height that I lost due to adding steel skids. I’m not trying to fit 285/75r16, so a simpler kit made more sense.

Your 2022 model likely already has a taller spring than the 2020-2021 models, which is how it sits .5” front and rear compared to earlier models. This Eibach kit would probably only get you .7” of lift in the front, whereas the Westcott would get you 1.5”. Id say go Westcott if you are also willing to get UCA and the ECGS bushing installed at the same time.

2022 might be a little difficult in my opinion due to the increase in stock height. The eibach kit will only give you a tiny increase, but the westcott kit might over extend you causing driveline issues that might result in you needing a diff drop.

If it was my truck, I would go with the westcott kit, but not use the top spacers. Or get the eibach kit and get a 1/4 inch top spacer.

 

We have not test fit a 22' for heights yet, so depending on where in SoCal you're located we may be able to help with your decision! PM if you're interested in coming in for test fit.

 

2020+ Eibach springs going on tomorrow. I’ll post some before and after measurements once installed.

Was going to say, just slapped some basic 650lb 14" springs on my 17-19 pros. Fit fine, but I do coil bind them so going to chop them to around 13.5"/machine the chopped side flat again.
