That's not f360. Or at least the version I use .

I guess I thought you were using f360 to trace a canvas.

    Sorry to confuse.

    Yeah, it's Draftsight.

I'm much faster at Draftsight, but don't like that the image gets clicked when you're clicking a line for a fillet or something.

I just wish the image would remain a 'ghost' basically like it does in Fusion 360.

Where can I find the yield, elasticity, etc. of annealed 4130 and 4140?

The basis of my question is to compare it to mild steel if I'm not heat treating it.

You might be able to find the answer here. I think you have to register but there’s a free version it looks like. To get all the data sheets

ChatGPT to the rescue! I don't know if these numbers are accurate but they seem reasonable.

Had a few days that I had to work on other things but finally wrapped up these 60 “wall spreader” fittings

Gotta question about welding up a bed cage for LT shocks. I wanna use a scrap piece of 2x2 square tube as my top anchor to go across the top that the legs and shock mounts will come off of. What wall thickness minimum should I use for something like this?

    pic for reference

I have a home made rack I pulled outta the desert that’s made from .120 wall dom that I can salvage most of what I need from. I would like to use this piece to link the two sides. What are your guys opinions?

we all know that was a tedious job.

You did get paid your normal rate and your consumables !

Better then just being told thanks for your time and materials for your gratis work.

My employer won’t ask me to weld anything anymore because I started charging them for my time and consumables. Kinda sucks because we need a lot of fab work right now and it would be a sweet paycheck but they want me to do it for free.

Myself I tend to go over kill at least 3/16" maybe 1/4"depends on the thickness I found in the cut off pile long enough.

Short run of metal is cheap, just go buy some DOM.

I like to overbuild rather than just do it "strong enough"

Time to look else where for employment .

Unless your getting comp time paid hours off Different perks to cover your time and materials .

If I ever fabricated anything for free it was for my Benefit not the company to make doing my job easier.

    Good luck1

I’ve got a ton of scrap in my garage lol
My local metal shop won’t sell anything under 20’ but I’m of the same mindset…over kill rather than strong enough. I was just more curious what thickness I’d need and if that 2x2 I’ve got would be good. I’m not home to measure the gauge and won’t be till Saturday afternoon lol

I’m not employed as a welder/fabricator. My employer just knows I have the background due to my resume and having done small jobs for my coworkers. I get paid really well for what I do now lmao

31 lol only been welding for a few years and forgot most of what I learned in school as I flooded my brain with information for my career.

When I get off shift Saturday I’ll check the wall thickness and let ya know. I wanna say it’s 14 so I don’t think it’ll be thick enough.
