So very true...before retiring from active duty I had several of my airmen decide to drive from Alaska back to assignments in Lower 48, some during winter months. So I'd go into my crusty Senior NCO routine with them; "so what's your contingency plan for if you break down our have an accident?" Amazed how many of them would answer with "I've got my cell phone." Then I'd explain the whole cell phone coverage bit to them and we'd develop a real plan with provisions for heat, food, water, etc to be able to survive until someone came along the ALCAN to help them out. Amazing how many take for granted that their cell phone will always be there and functional.

    Im also Canadian...

I come from Thunder Bay on the north shore of lake superior and extended wilderness..

Perks of living in Canada.....unbelievable fishing and hunting.. health care..lower crime rates...and lets not forget it takes 10 minutes to get roads and trail networks.

Recently moved to Ottawa, not the same

I don't know, sure are a lot of anti american canadians.. well, the internet ones.

I don't meet too many nationalistic americans under the age of 45 or so.
Kind of a taken for granted thing it seems. Probably the same almost anywhere, depending on stability of government.

Its not cool to be american, and many groups in america are involved with nothing else but being cool.

And this white/american guilt thing is out of control, at least around my work centre and friends. Self loathing and hate. All the time. Taking supposed responsibility for things they know little about and happened well before their life time. I'm not a fan of paying someone off because your great great mega grandparents had words or whatever. Much less feeling bad about it. Its discriminatory and prejudice.

Is the health care really great? I hear horror stories, but everyone's got something to sell.
I mean, I have great health care. I'm on the fence about providing it at tax payer expense in the US. Seems like trying to throw patches on an old constitution/government system that might need to be revamped. We'll socialize this and this, but not that and the other, never raise taxes, create systems for things no one wants and ignore the ones that are important.

Canada being the less powerful, less press, etc. Ya feel a little ignored. You think its what you want, but, you also feel a bit disrespected. Lash out more.

THat and canadian jokes, so low, so old. But man, people can't stop saying them whenever a canadian is around eh?
