I haven't tried them yet, but am considering them if the Grabbers don't work out.
You getting the 3W or the Trail?

    • Noticeably heavier than all other SL tires in the same size. May also be felt more due to rolling resistance....mpg was down vs General Grabber ATX, Toyo ATIII, BFG KO2
    • Made lots of scrubbing noises and hard-to-steer feeling when turning the steering wheel. Might also be a rolling resistance issue.
    • Rode more rough than any other SL tire I've tried
    • Would not balance worth a shit after 3 balancings at 3 different tire shops.
Switched to General ATX after a month of the WPs and it was night and day improvement. MPG came back, all of the complaints were gone. It honestly felt like I got a set of LT tires with a fake SL sticker slapped on. I verified three times that they were SL tires on the sidewall and they all came from Thailand, supposedly the good place to come from vs China.

Who knows. The only positive I can say about them is the traction was good and braking in slick wet conditions was very strong. They were quiet also, but all the other ATs I've run besides Duratracs were also quiet. Other than that I hated everything about the set I got. A lot of people like them so I'm sure it was a bit of misfortune in my case. However, they were a budget tire when they first came out. They are still the same tire as they were before but supply and demand has raised the price on them to the point where I firmly believe there is no reason to buy them. But, my poor experience with them probably biases my opinion anyways. I've been extremely happy with both the General ATX and Toyo ATIII.

    Haha!

Man… it was horrible. I turned up my music and just tried to ignore it. I was expecting much worse damage to be honest, was definitely the roughest trip I’ve ever been on.

On the same stretch where I scratched the shit outta my paint, I caught a log with my left rear wheel and bent my rear quarter panel outwards. Luckily I was able to push it back, the only slight damage is on plastic fender flare.

Will never forget that trip haha.

    I'm on my second set.

I've gone from rainy Florida summers to snowy Colorado winters with them and they've impressed me all the way.

Unrelated to weather but I've also pulled shit outta both sets that would've flattened other tires. They're tough bastards.

Living in mountainous areas in Idaho and Colorado with 60+" of snow per year and I couldn't recommend another tire more. I'm on my third set of WPs. In my opinion they're just as good as the Duratracs I had on my Wrangler on snow, but much quieter. I still get nightmares from the decision I made to buy KO2s back in the day...they were sooo bad.

So while their price has risen over the years, like someone else mentioned, I still think they're the best bang for the buck.

You really should be putting on LTX's if you highway daily....unless it's an appearance preference.

He really should be putting on Falken Rubitrek if highway driving is daily and they are still an A/T tire and do more than look the part.

Rubi treks are pricey and weigh in at 44lbs. I agree if you are running highway a less aggressive and lighter tire will be smoother with a lot less noise. I bought my truck in October and have run 285 75 16s Wildpeaks, stock Firestone Destinations, 265/70/16 Grabber HTS (Ats but no snowflake), and my current Hankook Ats in 265/75/16. If I was driving highway and doing and a little offroading I would without a doubt take the Hankook's. Driving in snow and Ice would take the Wild peaks hands down. If I wanted to save gas I would go with the destinations.

A family member has Falken Wildpeak's on his F150. He said they ride like bias ply in that they wander a bit until warmed up and that they took extra weight to balance out. They've got a bit of road noise from what I can tell. I know price and needing an all terrain were the main deciding factors as he drives gravel roads daily and owns a bit of acreage.

I test drove a new 3rd gen Tacoma with 285/70/17 Toyo Open Country AT3's. Those are buttery smooth on pavement and are light weight. I was very impressed with them.

I've ran several sets of Michelin LTX M/S on other full size trucks and they dry rot before I can get decent mileage from them. I've also had one separate and throw the tread from the tire on the interstate. I know BFG and Michelin are the same company and I have read about tread separation issues with BFG KO2's as well.

Pick whatever you want. If you're not happy with them swap them for something else. :notsure:

Anyone ever tried the 255/85r16 Wildpeaks? I think they're MTs however but they're 33" pizza cutters. Also seems to be the cheapest off road tire in that size on America's Tire's website.

LED interior, license plate, and fog lights. More to come.
Had them on my last truck and bought them when they were still much less expensive than most other similar tires. They served me pretty well but seemed to wear kinda quickly. At the premium price they're pulling now I'd consider something else. I went with Cooper Rugged Treks on my Taco. Definitely noisier but too early to speak on longevity.

I actually put wildpeaks on my wife’s subi crosstrek. They’re great! Little more road noise than a regular tire but amazing in bad weather

It’s interesting that 255/80/17 are about 1/2” taller than 285/70/17. Both say 33” OD on the sidewall.

I know because a coworker has 285s on his gladiator so I measured.

Good to know. Wny here too. I have been leaning toward them......so many options... I was happy with KO2 on my jeep when it was a daily....previous truck had falken wildpeak at trail....did good, but it might have been a heavy truck for that tire, it was full time AWD with all kinds of trac and stability so it did pretty good regardless of tire though.
