i went with 5100s at first because it was cheap and easy. Leveled the truck on OME 883s up front, basically stock in the rear. Drastic improvement over the blown factory tokicos.

second time around, I went 6112s set on the highest setting on the driver’s side front, one clip down on the passenger side (to account for taco lean, battery, driver, and fuel tank on driver’s side). Then extended length 5160s in the rear. On icon RTX leafs (setting 2 out of 3).

For me, both sets have been perfect for my needs. I wont buy a fancy rebuildable coilover for a multitude of reasons:

    1. Price, i’m not selling my left nut for shocks, furthermore, you’re high if you want me to pay for all your R&D and fancy anodizing that will corrode just like anybody else’s.

    2. I cant rebuild them, i’m an idiot.

    3. when they need rebuilt, I have to send them somewhere since i live in the sticks. So, what do I do with my truck in the meantime? Leave it on jack stands? Hovercraft mode?

    4. Bilsteins have treated me like gold on everything I have ever slapped them on, they can continue to have my business.

    5. Nobody needs kings or ADS (or the like) on a daily driver unless they daily drive the desert

Great write up and lots of good points!
When I was looking into lifts, the 6110/5160 were on my radar but I got a really good deal on the Ironman kit, including leafs and then an even better deal on SPC UCAs.
I’m still happy with them and most likely shouldn’t need to be rebuilt but even if they do, there is no nitrogen in them to worry about. They are stiffer than my family likes though… I used to recommend them but they are too expensive now and more than most people need.

I’m a border and have all of the parts I’ve taken off and that includes the entire OEM suspension. I have everything neatly stored away in case it’s ever needed.

They're good for me but I only daily drive. No offroading as of yet. Seems to ride decent, better than I expected. I wish it sat more level but I'm guessing it just needs adjusted... but other people here will probably have way better tips and opinions than I will cause I'm just not knowledgeable enough to give a comparison to other choices. But thank you for thinking of me!

    Good stuff

Many buy into the 'better to have and not need than need and not have!" and they use that to justify over-buying things. I go by "better to not need and not have if you don't need, than to buy and never need." Not as smooth, I get it...but...I even created a formula to gauge absolute value of an item, factoring in weight, cost, use (hours per year) and 'what is the absolutely worst case when I could use it but not have it'. :)

Im showing my old age here but I remember when Filson Outfitters sold all American made clothing and gear. I bought an Alaskan Guide flannel shirt from them in 2003. I paid $99 for a flannel and my dad thought I had lost my mind. The reason I bought it was because I read a quote in one of their magazines from a customer. It said "the true cost of a piece of clothing is not the amount paid at checkout, the real cost is the amount paid divided by the number of times you will wear the item". It resonated with me. I still have and still wear the shirt. Probably a bargain at this point. I am leaning toward a Eibach stage 1 or a 5100 kit.

    Sage advice!

I am very happy with my OME/5100 set-up. I never hard-wheel it, but I've been through a thing or two. And even with my "not suggested for winches/bumpers" 885 springs, the front didn't seem to dip at all with the new bumper and winch. Inexpensive and does exactly what I ask of it - it holds the truck up and keeps it from being too bouncy. :)

I prefer "Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it". I would rather be over prepared. I use that theory with 4wd & guns.
