Late night rant, TDLR what are y'alls insurance rates?

My Geico rate just went up from $543.65 to $742.24 overnight! (6 month premium)
I have a 2021 TRD Off Road MT with 43k miles. Needless to say, I'm LIVID about this. I was just wondering what y'all are paying as a comparison. I'm a 29 year-old male and have NEVER had an accident. My only claim was for a broken windshield on a different car three years ago.

I did get a ticket 2.5 years ago for driving faster than the interstate speed limit (number arbitrarily decided years ago by state legislature, applied as a maximum on ALL state highways regardless of actual design speed of the road or the handling characteristics of the cars being driven, and placed on a stick next to the roadway) that was dropped in court in exchange for taking an online defensive driving course, but my rates have stayed low ever since so that shouldn't be the issue..

I had done their BullS#!T "Drive Easy" program a while back and gave up on it. My scores were OK but it was a battery hog and it never realized when I was actually driving or not which meant I had to manually go in every day and select which "activities" were my drives--a serious PITA. Seriously, I'm an airline pilot by profession and this stupid app would log some of my flights as drives... like it seriously thought I was driving my Tacoma at 600+ mph SMH. It also would tell me that I used by brakes too hard when I literally wouldn't touch my brakes AT ALL. I don't want to be forced to use a BS system designed by school trained engineers (it takes one to know one) who don't understand the difference between driving like P**** and driving safely--with Geico or any other insurance provider--that effectively neuters me behind the wheel.

Give Progressive a try. Last year many people reported ins rates going up. Progressive did too so I upped collision deductible etc. and nickel and dimed them to get it back to where it was 6 months earlier (out of spite :)). I do keep significant asset protection (liability) though.
I have just about every discount available. I got a VERY BAD speeding ticket years ago (judge would not let me do traffic school).
They dinged my rates for 3 yrs. Back to good driving rates now.
MANY years ago I did their monitoring "snapshot" program. Only had it in car for a month. I got max discount and it follows driver (applies to taco rates now).
I don't know how it works now, might be the same. I actually thought it was accurate and liked seeing my history every night on their website.
My rate includes about $50 for comprehensive on another vehicle that rarely gets driven...but it is same as multicar
    discount so I keep it. 2018 SR5 $320 for 6 mos.
It can't hurt to call them. Many factors involved including region.
I am actually pissed because it is in the garage A LOT but the pay as you go insurance does not seem worth it to me.
    Good Luck. Hope this helps.

Edit: I actually got smog checked today (called DEQ in Oregon) so that put me in annoying vehicle expenses frame of mind...hence the reply. :)
1st time I have gotten checked in a few years. They are actually charging more to register for more efficient vehicles...logic being you are escaping gas tax at the pump. They really nail you if you have an EV.

insurance is very important as most of us know, I would personally only get full coverage , uninsured, underinsured motorists etc. Dont ever cheap out some insurances will try to convince you to get liability insurance for older cars, I wouldnt fall far that

agree. when i said nickel and dimed (assuming you are referring to my post) it was increasing deductibles i can afford. i carry more than full otherwise...but evaluate risk/usage too.

Geico just hit me freakin hard as well. 173.48 a month for 6 months up to 237 a month for 6 months. 40% increase - ridiculous. 27y/o male, only things on my record are a speeding ticket from 2015 (probably not on my record anymore) and a minor fender bender in 2019 (also possibly not on the record).

My price was $220ish a month for years and then finally dropped to $173 for 6 months. Thought that was great, and now this. I called a State Farm rep a friend gave me and she was able to get me better coverage than I have now for $184.99. Probably going with that but I did plan to shop around a bit more with SafeCo and a few others.

I did give Geico a chance to help themselves not be ridiculous. Customer service told me the price hike was because my new vehicle discount rolled off and “because inflation”. The new vehicle discount thing is BS for sure - my truck is a 2021 and their new vehicle discount is for 3 model years or newer. I did have 2 2019 frontiers, so if I still had one of those they would have rolled off, but the Tacoma is all that’s on there now and it definitely should be keeping the discount around. Regardless, the brunt of that hike is “inflation” and apparently the inflation hits far less hard at State Farm.

I will definitely not be continuing with Geico no matter what way I go unless they proactively reach out with a better offer which I doubt they will do.

One of the perks of being old (55)....We pay $775 every six months for (3) cars all with full coverage. My new 2023 Tacoma Pro, my 2009 Toyota Matrix and my wife's 2019 Mazda CX5. $75 of that is because our Grandson and family live in our basement apt. and their insurance is in his other grandfathers name.

Do you remember if you got an insurance break at 40/50 age milestone? I remember when I turned 25 my insurance dropped $200-400 (can’t remember exactly how much). As I turn 40 this year I’m hoping for similar discounts. Maybe I need to take on a wife for a discount, which any savings will be erased by having an expensive female companion.

Wow. Some of the people here are paying insane insurance! I have a 2019 TRD Sport, and I am paying about $750 a YEAR, with AAA here in northern California. That is for liability, uninsured/underinsured motorist, and theft coverage, no collision. I paid cash for my truck and the first year i had "full coverage", and that was $900. Collision of course, covers your vehicle if you have an accident by yourself, such as you drive off a bridge or down an embankment, etc. If someone else hits me, then their insurance will pay to fix my car. I have always paid cash for my new vehicles, because I did not want to pay the insane prices for "full coverage". I am quite confident in my driving so I have taken the chance, so to speak, by not having collision, for now, 50 years. [I just realized that I have been driving for 50 years! Wow!] But hey, this is me. My Humble opinion...

I don’t know where you all live but my insurance went from $680/ 6 months to $1150/ 6 months this last renewal.

I have perfect credit, own my home, don’t have a car loan, never been in and accident. I talked with a lot of companies and they all said straight, it’s not you it’s your zip code. Too many claims in your zip code, we have the approval from government to raise the base rates.

LOL, that will be the most expensive "discount" you will ever get. An occasional hooker is the way to go; do the math brother!

What we pay doesn't matter. There are too many variables to consider for any numbers tossed out on an internet board to be meaningful.

Age, record, where you live, what you drive, coverage levels, even your credit score, along with other stuff, all matter.

Find an Independent agent who reps multiple A+ firms, give them your specs and let them do the shopping.

PS. Insurance is another thing hit by inflation and indirectly supply chain. Folks rave about Tacoma value, sell for more than I paid, yada yada. Insurance will rise to be able to compensate for those numbers. Live in an area prone to hurricanes or flooding. Pay more. And on and on. You may find you have a good rate.

Canadian here, I pay 880 CAD or 653 USD for a full year full coverage. My trucks bundled with my house and other cars though, that price is just my truck.

It’s not how much you pay, it’s how the insurance company deals with you when you need to use that insurance. Gieco is notorious for giving you a headache. Trust me, you want customer service!! Nothing worse than getting into an accident and your insurance company delays and delays, ghosts you, can’t get anyone on the phone, etc etc. I’d pay the extra money not to go through that stress.

I will give a shout out to American Family through Costco. My 2nd gen was totalled last June by an uninsured motorist. Within 1 week I had my check from my insurance company and they gave me status updates every day, and I always spoke to the same people that knew my case. Believe me, I was so glad I had them cause I’ve heard horror stories with dealing with insurance companies. Being in an accident is stressful enough.

A few years ago I was not in the same position at work and I did get in an accident with my Rav4. Insurance was good they gave me a new Tundra for the month problem was after 2 weeks I couldn't afford to put gas in it so it sat in my driveway hahha
