We hit the field yesterday and again today. We usually go for an hour or so. Today, he stopped "marking" the ball so lost it and had to look for it. Not terrible performance but he eventually did.

Um…… yeah, the snow will build up in between the pads and start to cut them. You should get the booties for winter runs. If it’s good enough for Itidarod trail sled dog teams…..

Iditarod is a different beast. Dogs are running in snow that packs and turns to ice. Rock scrambling is another example but unless you’re backpacking or hiking a lot, you may not see a lot of that. Summertime walks can burn pads so they’re good for protecting pads.

Dogs regulate heat through the pads but only a small amount so no need to worry about that.

I’m in the mixed camp. As long as you’re outdoors and walking regularly , probably don’t need booties. If you’re snow camping or out in the heat, for sure. Or if your dog is mostly indoor and the pads are soft, booties for sure.

Has anyone ever had their dog have a histiocytoma (pink/ purple bump) removed? Specifically Quincy has a rather large one on his front toe, he's starting to limp. It's been there for years, and vet said he may need to remove his toe :(

Why would they remove the toe? Seems like aspiration and diagnosis would be first?

idk but I feel for ya. our old girl has a pretty large lump on her belly thats luckily not cancerous. its starting to get more tender so we'll probably need to have it removed. I hope its a simple procedure.

We were out of coffee, so my wife asked me to run to the coffee shop. I made the mistake of asking the puppers if they wanted to go for a ride in the truck. They apparently know exactly what that means, as they flipped out. And, as it turns out, they know exactly what the coffee shop is. It's the place where the owner always gives them a "pup cup" (straight whipped cream, probably bad for them). Five minutes waiting in the drive thru line with them whining, quietly barking and pacing nervously in the back.

But, they got their reward and are happy now

My Vet checked it a couple years ago, its a bump about 1/2" diameter. It's pretty big. And it sits directly in between his 2 front toes, and originally he said that it was so big that when removing it, one of the toes would go with it. The pain has subsided, and he's walking fine again, appointment with Vet today, I guess we go from there. I just really would like to avoid the knife.
