I am curious if Toyota will keep making Access cabs and long beds or if they follow the GM 1 configuration route

But as long as manual trans remains I will be happy

and really happy if I could get a reg cab with a manual trans which I know aint gonna happen

I didn't look too much into it, I knew it had a new powertrain and interior / exterior redesign, but it looked so similar to me I assumed (my bad I know) underpinnings were the same. We do love it, my wife is coming from a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid XSE that she loved but wanted something a bit more substantial and hybrid / Toyota was a must. We drove a highlander hybrid and she hated it, said it looked like a minivan. Just finished ppf and ceramic coating the Caviar paint she had to have (I loathe black). Thanks for the detailed info.

That's part of the camo package hiding the 4-link rear suspension... that Toyota had already shown on the EV concept:

    upload_2023-1-20_17-47-42.jpg

The EV concept also has a tailpipe o_O pointing diagonally. Maybe the 4th gen has a similar arrangement, but with an extra piece added to clear the camo "hairs".

Note the EV concept's side view mirrors are the same as the 4th gen prototype's.

So I just went on chevy.com and built a pretty loaded ZR2 with a 310hp and 430tq colorado for 51k... which will FOR SURE be cheaper than the new tacoma... Damn... Not looking good for the FY24 taco esp with that lame 2.4T... it seems like it only gets the highlander 0-60 in 9 seconds.... ugh

I see Maverick out selling the 4th gen Tacoma. If Ford builds more Mavericks than Toyota does Tacomas. The $20k less in price savings for people who don't really need a truck will change a lot of buyers minds.

    I dont

You can spec a Lariat Tremor and its 41k ish and a Tacoma Pro is 52k ish without accessories so To me the Tacoma is a way more Capable truck and more like a 10 to 12k difference

10 or 12k can buy a lot of community college courses or what ever else people spend money on. The majority of retail truck sales are to people who don't really need a truck. More capability off road isn't a requirement for them.

Ford still needs to prove they can sell the Maverick in numbers.

True but I think the Tacoma sells as well as it does because a modded Tacoma provides the instagram clicks the kids want and I dont think the Maverick will ever do that

But you Have to get the ZR2 in the Chevy to get the 430 torque number, otherwise its 390? Whereas the GMC has the high torque rating regardless of trim

Kids will get bored with Instagram sooner or later. People still need to drive to get to where they are going, and there's plenty of other non automotive content people can post.

Kids don’t use Instagram. It’s like Facebook for people slightly less old

Pretty sure the Ranger was outselling the 1st gen Tacoma through most of the 1990s. Whatever.

People pay $70k and wait almost a year to buy 4Runners (which is on a 20-year old platform) rather than getting a unibody crossover SUV that does everything they "need". :notsure:

I'd pay MSRP for a new TRD Pro 4Runner and still feel like an idiot, but I'm sure I'd like it.

^I paid $20k for a used 5th gen and found it surprisingly poorly equipped inside. I imagine I'd be sorely disappointed if I had paid MSRP on it back when it was new.

I like me a good ole BOF Toyota but the price for what you get is really disproportionate.

i'm surprised they bother to camo the mules. maybe they are trying to hide the TRD pool noodle between the bed and cab...? i doubt the competition cares or would pay attention to the appearance or what type of suspension the next gen tacoma will have. why would they?

if they just let it hang out so to speak, it'll cut down on the cost and risk of all these NDA's i keep reading about. o_O

based on their track record it'll be slower, be outdated, be uncomfortable, have less payload and towing, and be less fuel efficient. it seems they are adding less value to the list.

their bread and butter are simplicity, reliability, and affordability. i hope they maintain these.

Ok got it. That seems kind of silly to go through the trouble of hiding. Who cares? It looks just like the 4 runner suspension anyways.

As a used vehicle it's great - fewer things to go wrong
