FWIW: manufacturer quotes that at just 400 pounds. Pretty light as far as plows go. My 7'0" is north of 500, and I've never been shy of highwaying it since I mounted it 7 years ago. No durability issues with it whatsoever. Original clutch even on this 4-cyl. Well, unless you count the one they changed under warranty at 15000 km (pre-plow) due to inadequate spring force.

Anyone here put the md80 on their Tacoma? Asking since I have one already that was installed on my tundra was hoping it would still work with my Tacoma now. I believe it’s 30-40 pounds heavier

Never ripped the frame but I had a 7’6” Boss poly (sport?) plow on my 12 Sierra 1500. I only plowed my long driveway and the firehouse down the street. I broke 3 leaf spring packs and had to rebuild the front end at 90k. Those trucks are not at all built for plowing.

I always find this amusing. There’s someone out there that’s going to say this is bad. Don’t do this. Don’t plow with your truck. It’s bad. Yet, people plow snow with a side-by-side all day long. Was a two cylinder engine. In a CVT transmission with a rubber belt. And that's okay... and to them it’s okay to go rock crawling up mountains and climb over boulders. I’ve been plowing snow with my CanAm Commander 800 for four years. Beating the snot out of it. I usually plow three driveways every snowfall. I should mention.. I live in Upper Michigan. That’s the upper peninsula. We get stupid amount of snow. You have to think about the size of a full size truck our fathers used to plow snow. Full sized trucks back then are basically the same size of the Tacoma now. I believe plowing with your Tacoma is fine. With the right coil spring in your front suspension and a good set of Goodyear Duratracs tires. And plow smart you’ll be fine.

I have been plowing with my Polaris atv 500 with a 60'' plow for 10 years here in Vermont. Chains on the back it will plow alot of snow. i am going to buy a plow for my tacoma this year.
I am sure it will plow just fine. I would like to do something with the front suspension to keep it from sagging to much

Well you may have a Tacoma but if you have never plowed snow you should stay off the thread. And if your plow is not attached to a Tacoma and you're not looking to attach one to a Tacoma then stay off the thread. Otherwise I live in Wyoming and have a 2nd Gen. I'm looking a a western defeder or a Boss HTX-V. Curious if anyone has either and if you can share photos of the vehicle mount and how low it sits when in summer not being used. I believe the western has more ground clearance.

I've read guys slapping on Timbren SES with no sagging issues. Time will tell which dirction to go. I might try the Timbrens and see how they work, if not happy with them then upgrade my suspension.

ARE cap, wade inchannel vent visors, weathertec floor mats, ranch hand grill guard, tuffy security boxes in bed, lockable tailgate handle. Still have stuff that needs to be installed and still have stuff ordered lol.
i plow snow every year but not with my tacoma i use company trucks which are ford f250's, chevy 2500's and 3500's and colorado's and i can tell plowing takes it toll on the trucks i live where they use rock salt and liquid calcium on the roads and the trucks rust bad and are prone to electrical problems. chevy colorados are the worst just had a 2017 chevy colorado the main engine wire harness corroded and 2 different splice points where chevy put 4 wires to 1 wire causing no power to oil pressure solenoid and 2 other solenoids smh. also 4 alternators seized 2 starters fried 8 hours to change starter on colorados and 4 a/c compressors seized. 3 with bad grounds that failed. also the colorados run very hot and almost over heat when driving when your putting load on the engine. i tell he other drivers who drive colorados to raise the plow and drop it alittle and angle it and dont get on the gas to just cruise otherwise it will over heat. needless to say they dont listen and overheat the trucks. 1 truck overheated 10 times that i know of but i know it did alot more than that.

as for raising the plow when plowing i do not raise it till im backing up when driving the colorado. also most of the time i leave it in 2 wheel drive so i have more maneuverability lol

When mounting the plow mount to the frame does the skid plate have to be removed? 2012 Tacoma

Good question! With mine the mount for the plow blocks the front skid from being removed, so that’s gonna be annoying when it has to come off.. don’t know about other brands.

stopped plowing commercially with full size trucks recently and this plow is very capable for a 5” storm

This reminds me of my buddy who has a lawn care business and plows during the winter. He was busy last year with the few storms we got, so I figured he was making great money that month. Then he schooled me and said not really, because ALL of his trucks were in the shop with transmission issues, busted ball joints, and etc….
    All full-size diesel trucks to.

I see old Jeeps with plows on them all the time. They ONLY plow though and sit parked in the woods until they are needed.

Yeah, I was just pointing that out. And agree about the abuse too, seen it.
My snow removal team grew up and moved out some time ago, as it happens. Got a plow on a SXS now...:D

I've had Fisher Minute mounts on both of my first gen Tacoma's and a Western 6' on my 88' Extra Cab and never had a failure from plowing.....never even changed out the OE clutch! My last one (I still have it, 155K, original clutch) has a 7.5 foot MM2 and I put about 400 pounds of ballast right at the tailgate and it always gets the job done. I can plow almost anything a full size can (abeit it might take a bit longer) but if the truck is outfitted and operated correctly the Tacoma rules driveways due to it's size. People are amazed at how much snow this truck can push.
