$55-60 labor? It’s like double that in the twin cities Minnesota.

There is alot of prep to paint that bumper. 1st. It needs to be washed soap and water. 2nd, wax and grease remover, 3rd, scuffed w/scuffed pads. 4th, wax and grease mover again. 5th primer. 6th scuffed/sanded again.7th wax and grease remover again. 8th painted with flex agent. 9th clear coat w/ flex agent. Shop rates around here are $80 -$110.

body and paint labor are heavily regulated by the insurance companies. mechanical rates are double or more but, body and paint have not been able to get to that level. Ski

yes, and the estimate is paying the shop 5.5 hours to do this. are your body labor rates 80-100 or mechanical rates? I ask because I am in the industry. Ski

Labor seems high. How much prep can the black front bumper possibly need before spraying? A light scuff and some degreaser really. :notsure:

X2. White line-x. I think they could probably match the factory color or close to.

Or he could just sand off whatever he put on and try again and not buy another bumper. You can sand and paint something more then once these days.

Dude, if it's the front bumper then that's about right. You gotta prep, then comes the cost... Remember that the bumper cover is flexible so primer, sealer and paint all have to have flex agent added which is expensive.
Sure, you can get cheaper but it won't last. Think about all those cars you see with the paint coming off the bumper in sheets. They went for the cheap option as well.

Pretty typical price these days. For what it’s worth, the gallon of white toner I had to restock on my mixing bank this week was $960. Labor is expensive, materials are REALLY expensive now. On top of that, you have a raw plastic number that needs to be cleaned and prepped a very particular way, have adhesion promoter applied, then sealer, then base, then clear.

Spitballing here but I think it is a little high but not by much. There is a lot of orep work, particularly on a used part that needs to be prepped to recieve paint. The least work is a new bumper that is made to receive paint. I counted 15 hours. Seems high by 4. I would think $800 would be right. Im no expert just someonr who has had a lot of work done over the years

Why is it more work to paint a used part?

I’m in CA and I had my bedsides and fenders painted for less than that.
