Michigan is inflated due to it being a no fault state or some shenanigans like that. So, welcome to Rhode Island! :hattip:

I'm tempted to start a dashcam youtube channel and monetize it, I could retire early.

Yep, I had to go back and look at it. The taxes went up and that was the most of the escrow increase. The home owner's went up 480 bucks compared to 2021. I had to go back and actually look at where the money was going. One thing for sure, I'm paying more money.

I'm in Florida and I have Geico. I switched from Progressive to them last year. I had been with Progressive for 5 years, was a Platinum Level customer and they jacked my rates to over $500/month. Geico for the first half of the year was like $240/month. (my daughter also on my policy and under 25). Just got a premium notice that they are jacking my rate up to $504/month. So I'm insurance shopping now myself.

you shouldn’t have switched. especially from progressive to geico. that’s an especially bad direction to go.

you should have inquired why your rate when up to over $500/mo, then talked to our retention dept to help get your rate down.

I did. They gave me the same BS Geico did about the cost of doing business in Florida. Accidents and repair costs are higher in your area... blah blah blah. Every year my rate went up. My daughter was in 2 accidents in 2020 and 2021, neither her fault, and they raised my rates. 1 accident, in 2018 was her fault, but a fender bender.

I've got Geico and it was the cheapest option in my zip code here in FL. Good luck finding something cheaper and if you do lmk. I called everyone and they wanted about $100 more a month than Geico

AAA quoted me $249/month for both of us and $147/month for me.
Allstate quoted me $201/month for both and $122/month with Loss Replacement
Liberty Mutual for both was $477/month and because I did an online quote already, they said I had to call for a just me quote.
Progressive was $277/month for both, funny considering they jacked me up to $500 2 years ago.

I had them quote me for both of us and just me, because she turned 25 this month and I was expecting rates to go down, not up, but now that she's 25, she may be able to get a lower price for just her.

you didn’t do both that i advised, it seems. first of all there’s more going on with your rate, you just have to get to the right person. that’s why i said you should have spoken to our retention team. you talked to just customer service and they read scripts. but i can tell you increases due to the cost of operating going up, is not bs. insurance companies are for-profit companies.
but like i said before, there are other reasons as well.

and don’t forget, you guys in florida get to pay for all that insurance fraud that goes on. let that sink in.

FWIW, I ditched Geico recently too. Progressive was about 30% cheaper. I left Farmers for Geico because they were nearly 50% cheaper. I hear you have to flip providers every 3-4 years to keep the best rates. Loyalty doesn’t pay. I had been with Farmers for ~25 years and ‘sorry, that’s the best we can do’ was what I got.

Sound just like the perfect socialist type of company. Make those of us that pay our bills on time, don't file claims, and follow the law....for all those that don't...Punish the Innocent! The American Dream!

    make sure you:

    1. matched the exact same coverages
    2. you gave them your dl numbers and made them run your dmv and clue reports

without following those two steps, you may not be comparing fairly.

you do not. you just have to know how to play the game. and remember that if you switch often, you’ll never be able to build up any loyalty benefits.

Yup, I'm just now learning you have to flip them like internet providers. It's sad really.

    1. you choose to pay for private insurance
    2. you choose to have a vehicle
    3. you agree to the insurance contract
    4. insurance is like any other consumer product, and it’s dumb to think otherwise.

I moved in with my mom 3 years ago as her caretaker (she has early onset Alzheimer's). 3 years ago her Home Owners insurance was less than $2000/year. Last year it was $5000/year and this year it went up to $8000/year. Their reasoning; the house is over 40 years old. It has a metal roof that was put on in 2003. Now, in 2003, metal roofs were supposed to last 50+ years. Now the insurance companies want you to replace them every 20 years. What a joke!
