I've had the alert go off, but I don't recall the brakes every applying. I've also had the Cruise Control false alert on curves and even a hilly road in my town.

My guess is that every once in a while something will cause the computer logic to alarm when there's really no issue.

I have had a BRAKE! on a couple of occasions when going under a highway bridge. I think sun position, marks on the road and shadows played into it.

I have noticed when it is doing the BRAKE!! thing, if I apply the brakes rapidly it will greatly amplify the brake force and depending on my reaction and the speed involved the truck will do a complete full force stop. It seems the program takes my rapid braking as a confirmation of an impending wreck. Where it will sometimes happen is when on a curve and tangent to the curve is another road where a car is approaching quickly. I had an almost full stop in that situation. I had a complete full stop when approaching a Y shaped intersection where I had no stop sign but one of the branches of the Y did, a car was coming quickly in my direction to their stop sign. In both cases I can see from the Tacoma computer's "perspective" so to speak a crash seemed imminent.

This is insane. I'd never own or drive a vehicle that was capable of doing this on its own recognizance.

oh boy, here come the anit-tech, flip phone, walked to school uphill both wayers.
Remember decades ago they told us all those fancy doodads like power windows and lock would just fail.
Mine has gone off once or twice in 4 years, one of which was probably needed as it started to brake before I could react and I needed every inch, when the car in front of me (about two cars up) apparently wasn't paying attention and ran right in to the car in front of them on the highway.

Sudden braking is worse than swerving or driving forward mindlessly, and theres usually body language from the driver confirming this. The adaptive cruise control will do illogical things like speed up when you apply the brakes, or apply the brakes when you want to speed up. Theres an S curve road with cars parked along the curbs but a full lane of traffic either direction, the BRAKE!! pops up regularly around there.

The more troubling issue is that dealerships can access this data along with a snapshot from the windshield camera when you get the BRAKE!! alarm and make whatever they want out of it.
I've had one place deny warranty coverage based on their presumption from the data that i like to drive with my foot on the brake and gas simultaneously and i tailgate people often triggering the brake alarm. (adaptive cruise and tss glitches)
Literally had a tech say 'the numbers don't lie brutha'..and that was that, they'd work on the truck but they wouldn't submit it for warranty and i'd have to pay for the service.

I have never had it speed up when I hit the brake or slow down when I hit the gas.

You might be happier in the 1st or 2nd gen forum.

It doesn’t, in fact the cruise is disabled when the brake is depressed.

This has happened to me once, also passing under a highway overhanging sign / toll transponder with no one else around and oncoming lanes separated by a very wide median. No brakes applied but definitely got my attention and resulting 30 seconds of WTF did I miss thoughts.

Still much better than other vehicle (Ford Flex) which gets its collision warning set off by bicycles in a cycle lane at least weekly.

adaptive cruise does cut out when you hit the brake, but if its already accelerating it doesn't immediately throttle back. have had it happen several times between vegas and los angeles

I'd take it back to a dealer, mine chops off instantly when you tap the brake.

It's not a perfect system...hasn't ever freaked me out though. I read the manual thoroughly to understand how it works and what conditions affect it's ability to function properly.

If you hate it, turn it off through the gage cluster menu. There's also a TSB out there to remember the last PCS setting after turning the vehicle off...so you can have it off all the time if you like.

3 dealerships have said its normal, i know i know 4th one might say different but i mention it because its happened, it doesn't bother me too much because i rarely use it. i've got an automatic so cruise control regularly is in 3rd - 4th gear at 5,000 rpm trying to maintain speed on road trips anyway.

Oddly enough the exact opposite happened to me. I ripped a big fart, I got a warning to speed up and the windows rolled down automatically.

    Unreal!

I read the manual.......there are almost two pages dedicated to what may hinder the operation of the system. They pretty much covered their asses on that one.

isn't there a brake distance setting?

i dropped mine down from 'all ethereal spirits' to 'ghostbusters'

mine still goes off, it just makes an annoying beep that always takes me a second to figure out what's beeping and why it's beeping. usually fog/railroad tracks/bump in the road. but no vehicle control differences.
