And there certainly are a lot of Americans on the internet who come out as total ass-hats with statements like Canada is America's biotch, Canada should be America's 52nd State, etc etc. While the internet is a relatively new phenomena (by my age timeline), there has been a historical mind-set with Canadian's, that we are under-dogs to US influence and overt control. Canadian Nationalism tends to take a posture of defensiveness and defiance against that sort of US mind-set as above, more often than not - internet, or not. We may be neighbors, with similar peoples and attitudes, but we are also different, in culture and values.

One fundamental, and purely visual, difference in Nationalism - every time i cross the border, i am somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer amount of US flags around - even on private residences. You simply don't see that amount of flags around in Canada, or on private property. A difference in the way two countries choose to display their loyalties, perhaps. One country is more visual, the other rather more subtle, but no less strong.

You haven't got the monopoly on this as a country, with PC'ism out of control, and multi-ethnicity now tipping the scales for what this country once was made up of, in terms of it's anglo-saxon roots. Try being blue-eyed and white, and trying to get a fire-fighters job, or a position on a Police force, or inside government. You are affirmative-actioned right the fuck out of contention - even if you ARE the better man, physically, mentally and educationally, amongst the competition for the work.

Don't even get me started on the pandering to, and the guilt-trip from our own 'Natives' who assume that their Status places them above ALL others in terms of social benefits, flaunting of responsibility to the greater good of the larger country and society, and who throw hissy fits upon occasion that take hostage towns and regions in the name of Native Militancy - and the State does nothing but pander to and placate them - at least the way that it is done in Ontario, anyway.

the biggest reason why a lot of canadians are pissed off at americans is because a few people in your government during 9/11 blamed canada for the 9/11 attacks.
