Looking for advice/suggestions on how to touch up a scratch on my black OEM running boards. I clipped a cement post at a gas pump (misjudged that one) and have about a 12 inch red paint scratch that I’m hoping to cover up.

This is not body-shop-level quality but I'd wipe it all down with rubbing alcohol, let that dry, mask the area(s) as needed, then rattle-can primer it, let that dry. Then rattle-can black spray paint in the appropriate finish, maybe "satin"? 10-15 mins & $20 if you don't already have the rattle cans in the garage somewhere.

Handy tip for rattle-can spray paint, in general: In the past, 1 out of 3 rattle cans would stop working after just one or 2 uses due to the sprayer tip clogging. To prevent that, pull off the plastic spray tip immediately after use (within 1 minute) & put it onto a can of brake cleaner. One or two quick blasts of brake cleaner through the spray tip cleans it out & prevents it from clogging. Wear goggles, be careful not to spray yourself in the face/eyes. For extra measure, use the red thin straw on the brake cleaner can to blast out the short stubby supply tube at the top of the rattle-can spray paint because that also can sometimes get clogged with dried paint.

Sounds like paint transfer from the post which shouldn't be difficult to remove. Got a picture of the damage you're trying to fix?
