there is overwhelming evidence that the tune adds power and torque on stock naturally aspirated 3.5 Tacoma's.

I've been following this board for only a year and I have yet to see a single shred of evidence to support your claim.

what’s the big deal with shifting your own gears? It’s not that hard.

you need to keep looking then because a tune is one of best mods for these trucks and not just for the terrible auto trans.

The same engine in other platforms has a range of 61 hp. The Tacoma lies near the middle of that range. Tuning can get you at least 33 hp without exceeding what Toyota’s tuned it for.

You can likely make more than that with a tune though.

It is not 100% the same engine in other applications. Different cams, compression, etc tuning the engine for the application. Part of the danger with tunes is you are trusting some dude with a laptop to know better than a team of Toyota engineers. OEM engineers aren't just lazily leaving power on the table because they dont know as much as some guy that downloaded HPTuner softwear. There is a lot of garbage softwear floating around. If you really want to get deep with it, The Smoking Tire Podcast had Mitch Mckey from M Engineering on last week talking about the tuning industry.

I am not arguing a tune can help drivability, I am arguing they do NOT increase the output of the engine.

Show me a single tune which dials up the power; like I said before, I have yet to see a shred of evidence which supports a power boost.

KD max pro v9 tune adds 29 HP and 28 lb ft of torque on 87 octane and also adjusts the shift points better so it’s not gear hunting as much. I’m getting mine tuned next week.

Says who? I researched it last year and don't think I ever saw such a claim.

Reach out to @TWTaco and he’ll set you straight with all the information. He does tunes here in socal. There’s a whole other thread on the KD max tune. Just type it in

I communicated with @TWTaco last year and do not remember him making any such claims. Think about it, a greater than 10% gain in power for a normally aspirated engine is quite a bump.

If this thread is an indication of what the 4th gen forum will be like, it looks like we are in for one hell of a shit show.

Why do people always bring up “the Toyota engineers did it this way so it must be 100% right and not need a change”. They didn’t engineer a car based on what they thought would be a good truck. They designed it around laws and bean counters.

I can almost guarantee they left power on the table for emissions reasons alone.

I feel like you are trolling at this point…you’ve never seen claims of increased horse power? KD Max tune never claimed in

Have you even looked into tunes? Here’s the very first google result.

If you don’t want to click the link. Here is the relevant bit.

I’ve seen several dyno sheets in the OTT posts. I don’t look into kdmax but I’d assume there’s dyno results there as well.
