2020 tacoma trd steering wheel radio control

Toyota did this wrong. The steering wheel radio control should be moved 90 degrees counterclockwise to be correct. As it is, if you push the UP channel button, it takes you "down" the dial to the next LOWEST station (numerically). Also if it was moved the volume up and down buttons would be up and down not sideways.

All thoughts welcomed.

 

This has been beaten to death since 2016

 

Drive it for a year and you wont care, my hand doesn't even need any thought from me to work it correctly. Worst part is that my wife's rav4 which I drive a lot is layed out differently.

100% agree. I used aftermarket head unit adapter (Idatalink I think) to reprogram the buttons so that they are correct.

Of course, now everyone who drives my car asks me why the station changes when they meant lower the volume.

 

Yeah I guess if I was driving a bunch of different cars and they were all "standard" and the tacoma was the only one that was layed out differently then it would be hard to get used to it, but since most people just have 1 vehicle I'm not sure how it matters what "standard" is. You're entitled to your opinion, I just think you're in a minority of people who care. Seems similar to being bothered by the layout of a tv remote.

Good news is 2020 dont have that shifting issue! but yeah other than that the other stuff is basically "standard" issues lol

 

Nor do older 3rd gens with the TSB. They're essentially the same software they come with now.

I think because its a Japanese vehicle. Designed in Japan for the most part.

In Asian culture and language, before and after are expressed in the written language as 上 and 下. Which is basically pointing up for before and pointing down for next. So for them, this is the natural position for previous and next.

As far as the volume, their language would view this as smaller and bigger (小 and 大). I guess if you looked at it as progressing from smaller to larger could be viewed as a progression from left to right which is how they have adapted their reading methods as our latin based is also.

Asian languages, specifically Chinese, Korean and Japanese all have these commonalities.

Its funny how language and location change our viewpoints. Northwesterner's mostly say North South East West when referring to the compass. They all say East West South North or something like that. What seems strange to them is normal to us and visa versa.

 

TLDR and how high were you when you came up with that. It’s because you’re controlling the scroll screen of the head unit; nothing cultural about it. If you get off the Home Screen and use the audio screen of the headunit the control layout makes sense, you’re scrolling a list of stations on the radio or songs in a folder from top to bottom not left to right. Besides the Tacoma is designed in North America for North America, it might share its roots the original Toyota pickup but it’s far from a Japanese truck.

 

Then you dont want to hear my theory why the cab is best suited for 5'-5" tall men.
