I'm very stoked about it. Glad I made the choice I did. I'm going to leave the motor stock for now and run the oe computer, but I'll be putting in a higher stall converter and a lower temp thermostat in the 6L80E. I heard from @906taco that they are a weak link, but I really want the gearing it offers, so I'm gunna give it a go. from all my research, it's typically the converter and high temp that kill them. It's not like I'm building a race truck so it should be okay I hope.

Thanks man! That was my first time at the rampage site, was super fun. That's my friend Ollie doing the flip, I've only landed them to airbags and mulch so far. I think it just takes bigger balls to get to dirt honestly haha

Was t-bogging consistently and then got too confident and got folded up. Back to scratch lol, confidence gone

Picked up a brand new frame and the ls today. The frame was a super good deal. It is for an access cab, but I'll be back halfing anyway, and doing some body mounts is no big deal. I figure since I'm relocating the front cab mounts anyway, I'll probably move the whole cab back 1-2" for a bit easier clearance for bigger tires. Will have to check on head light clearance though!

    Very excited.

I think that tacundra guy was able to move his cab back like 3 or 4 inches, so I should be okay with up to 2... I do clear 37 right now, so if I do 1.5" back, theoretically I should clear 40s right?

Made a quick frame dolly so I can move the frame around easily in our small shop.

My friend and I got almost every mount rough cut off in 1.5 hours tonight. Little bit more to go, then clean up and the frame is ready to weld stuff on. Sure goes quick when there's nothing in the way.

Got some progress in this weekend. Slowly chipping away at it. Got all of the mounts off the new frame, all necessary rivets removed, and everything ground down smooth. Also pulled all extra curricular accessories from the truck. It's basically stock now! Have a few more things to pull tomorrow like the sliders, etc. Then I'll start stripping what I need to off the new engine.

Truck still drives currently so I can move it in and out of the shop so it's out of the way during the week.

Still sorting out what tcase to use, probably np241.

Anybody have wiring diagrams for the airbags? I want to completely remove all of the airbag wiring.

Pretty sure the fact that those transmissions give out has something to do with the lack of ATF changes. GM made it really really hard. #lifetime fluid, lol! Changing the ATF & filter on my 2018 Tahoe (which has the 6L80E) was one of the most miserable maintenance jobs I have ever done. No drain or fill ports. Pan won’t drop unless you unbolt your trans mount and yank down the y-pipe.

edit: with a high stall torque converter you’ll be changing ATF often. Drill and tap the pan for a magnetic drain plug. You can refill it via the dipstick.

So it has a dipstick but no fill or drain ports?! I haven't actually looked at it too closely yet, just been working on the frame and cab. I will have to modify the pan anyway like @tacotunner06 so I will definitely add a drain plug. Good call, thanks! how do you fill? through the dipstick I guess. I gotta look into that a bit more obviously.

I wanted an atlas 2, but budget needs are making me look for an np241 instead, so I need to find one of them and order a slip yoke eliminator.

I was talking about the transmission pan. And yes, on my L83 Tahoe, no fill or drain plugs for the trans, but it has a dipstick… the trucks with the L86 have no transmission dip stick even though it’s the same transmission.

pretty sure the transmission behind the LQ9 will have a dipstick and maybe also drain and fill plugs. I never worked on one of those older ones.

Started pulling the engine apart today, gunna go buy a motor stand and pull the heads and pan off, clean and check everything. Gunna throw a cam in it as well I've decided. Not sure which one yet though. Looking at the btr truck Norris cam currently20230123_175322.jpg

I like how this is escalating quickly from “I’ll leave the motor stock” to tearing it down and camming it lol!!

I have been looking for a larger screw on thing(name evading me) for the oil filter. Yours looks rather large in volume. I need one from an automatic(mines a 6spd) is what some said, it has to have an oil cooler and the plumbing hooked up I think....I don't know, sorry, but anyway I tried the large oil filter mod with a purolator very large blue filter.

Your s looks like it has enough spacing around the filter. I now run the larger mobil 1, but the blue large purolator wouldn't fit down inside to screw on...not enough room. More oil happier engine and less strain pushing oil through smaller object.

    Forgive the vagaries. Exhausted.
